Open Marketplace, Payswarm, Good Relations & Linked Open Data

Hello All,

Thanks to Derek Martin's efforts, we connected with Manu and his
Payswarm community this past week. We had the opportunity to share our
vision for the Open Marketplace Initiative and to learn about the
Payswarm project.

Manu Sporny of Digital Bazaar (http://digitalbazaar.com) and team are
working on a standard around a micropayment platform called Payswarm
(http://payswarm.com/) . He recognizes the need for an open way to
discover information about organizations, goods and services, and has
engaged others who are working on just that. It seems that the broader
group shares in a very similar vision to that of Open Marketplace.

The Payswarm community includes Kingsley Idehen CEO of OpenLink
Software (http://www.openlinksw.com/), makers of Virtuoso Universal
Server and Prof. Dr. Martin Hepp the creator of the GoodRelations web
ontology for e-commerce. Both these gentlemen have a lot of experience
in the open data space and could provide a wealth of knowledge and
guidance to the OM project.

Christopher and I spoke with Manu this afternoon about the potential
synergy between our respective projects. Manu recorded the conversion
and will be making it available to the Payswarm and Open Marketplace
communities. We will be working with Manu and others over the next
week or so to better understand the possible fit and to identify next
steps.

This is potentially a very exciting development for both Payswarm and
Open Marketplace communities. We will continue to update and engage
members over the next little while.

We had a great chat - covered lots of stuff that Kingsley, Martin and I
glossed over. Bottom line: I think we're starting to collect a really
interesting group of people that are passionate about this space -
looking forward to seeing what happens over the next 4-6 months.
