I wanted to make it easier for people to manipulate OLC codes in a spreadsheet. There's the VB library on github for Excel/LibreOffice, and recently I spent some time making an add-on for Google Sheets.

I'd like to get some feedback on it before I make it publicly available.

You can install the add on from the Chrome Web store using this link. That will open Google Sheets, and load the Plus codes add-on.

There are functions to encode, decode, shorten and recover. You can see how to use them in this example sheet.

An important point is that the functions work on ranges. If you have 1000 lat/lngs to encode, you only enter the formula in one cell and give it the range. The function will run much faster that way!

Please reply and let me know how you get on.

Thanks!

Goodafternoon Doug,

As an goverment official (Min. of Justice & Security) I am working with 'Big & Long Data' files.
These data-sets are often offered including geo-data. Since a couple of months I try to incorporate the ' openlocation code' into my spreadsheets (LibreOffice, BusinessObjects, Google Docs or Excel).
Openlocationcode is giving me the option to make locationsites unique. Your project is offering me a big step to work out a model of Geo-based information sheets for my management. My problem is the missing knowledge of including code into my spreadsheets to de- encode the global Lat/Long (and the Dutch RD-system) info into Openlocatian notation.

Would you be so kind to offer me an introduction / workaround how to make a better use of OLC in combination with the Geo-info I already have?

Looking forward your reply.

Kind regards,
