Hey guys,

We finally got llad, dmx_usb, and our EntTec usb device working
yesterday and it was quite awesome. Daniel spent pretty much the
entire day programming patterns and working with QLC to learn how to
accomplish our goals. So a huge thanks to you all! it's been great,
but we've run headlong back into an issue.

We rebooted the machine it was built on this morning and now it no
longer works :(

It detects the EntTec as an opendmx device, we've got no /dev/ttyUSB0
either. We tried symlinking it to /dev/dmx0, and we symlinked /dev/dmx
to /dev/dmx0 just in case.

I'm not sure what we did the other day to get it working, but there
was lots of experimenting with other dmx linux drivers, like
dmx4linux. So there was lots of building of failed modules, failed
attempts with many different drivers, and all kinds of symlink games.

I've chmod'd /dev/dmx0 to 777, I have no usbserial modules loaded of
any kind, and no ftdi modules loaded.

This is on an Ubuntu 8.10 system, kernel 2.6.17 (11-generic Ubunutu
revision).

I'm sure this is something simple, a symlink, a hotplug setting, a
udev config, something that we probably did manually yesterday and did
not realize, can anyone please help?

Oops, figured it out.

The issue was the USB EntTec device needed to have the ftdi_sio module
loaded.

This tutorial, which arguably is for opendmx, but does have some
instructions for EntTec/Prousb modules wanted the module blacklisted,
which the EntTec device requires them.

http://www.opendmx.net/index.php/LLA,_OpenDMX_USB_and_Q_Light_Controller_Tutorial#Build_and_install_the_usb_kernel_module

If no one on this list pipes up saying they are affiliated with the
opendmx people I will shoot them an email letting them know of their
error.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, I could see where this was headed when you starting talking
about dmx_usb while using a Pro.

The tutorial is correct in that it's only designed to cater for the
OpenDMX device. I can't see any mention of Enttec Pros on that page.

It's a wiki site - no one really 'owns' the page.

Oops, I was confusing that howto with a different one, you are
correct, it has no references to EntTec.

I figured if an admin of the site was on this list they might just go
throw it in there without me needing to go make an account and
everything. Either way, I was mistaken about the howto anyway, though
I'll probably go make a few notes in it anyway as a lot of the
information is pretty relevant. I'll also go find the other howto
whichever one that was and make any corrections there.

Thanks for the reply Simon, everything has been running great since we
realized our error.
