Hey Alex,

It's kind of difficult to answer if you are doing something wrong when the only thing we know is that "you tried to follow 11 year old instructions and don't know much about Linux", either you followed the instructions to the letter or you did not?
Did you turn off Linux trying to use the UART? Is everything wired correctly? Does the line driver chip you are using speak the same TTL as the chip used in the blog post?

Personally I have only worked with FTDI devices and never had the time to mess around with a direct output from a RPi but maybe someone else on the list has.

From a quick read of the post I would think that it is mostly valid even today but again I never tried that.

Hi,
I'm trying to run OLA as an Art-Net to DMX "interface" via a Raspberry Pi (3b) and UART.
I don't know much about Linux and Raspberry Pi, and I'm trying to follow the instructions linked in the plugin documentation (http://eastertrail.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/command-and-control-ii.html), but it's still not working.
Every time I set everything up and start a new universe, there is no UART output. Am I doing something wrong?

Can someone help me?

By the way, in the instructions linked above, they are using the MAX3158 chip. Can I replace this chip with a MAX485?

regards,

Alex
