This is the usb to dmx converter:

I would prefer it to be on Mac but it can be on windows if needed to make it work.

Thanks,
~Noah

I've got a little windows app that might do the trick...

Actually, it probably won't because the dongle you've linked is no good.

Sorry,
Hippy

If OLA supports your interface, then it can do the job.

First try running OLA and see if it finds it, if not post an lsusb so we can try and find out what the interface is.

How would i install OLA? Is it a program with a GUI or just console commands? Also is There a better interface to get? I Really would like to make it work on mac but don't want to shell out $300+ for an art net to dmx converter.

To elaborate on what Simon said. It has command line functions as well as a Web Interface that is fairly simple especially for what you are wanting to accomplish, and it runs really well on a MAC.

Ok so after a bit more research i think (correct me if I'm wrong) but i think i would be able to install OLA on a rPi and then use it as a art net to dmx node, right? Are there any good tutorials for this?

Here is a link to installing OLA on the raspberry pi,

If you wait a few days you'll get the latest -> 0.9.2

As for setting it up as an Artnet -> DMX node you'll need a USB dongle or some hardware to use the serial port on the pi.

This page has an overview of the supported USB to DMX devices

I don't have any links for a walkthrough as a network to dmx converter but its relatively simple.

Start olad (the daemon) and open the web console. Then patch in input port and output port. Then you are done. You may need to do extra work depending on your usb to dmx adapter or hardware you select.

Ok i have installed OLA on my mac and am attempting to use my uDMX Usb to Dmx converter as my output from artnet on the same computer. Is that possible to do it from the same computer? Also has anyone gotten a uDMX converter to work? I cant seem to find any drivers for it to show up in OLA as an output. Thanks!

The Anyma uDMX is listed first here as a supported device:
http://www.openlighting.org/ola/

Generally if you don't see it show up you may need to follow steps here:

It doesn't look like you need to add a udev rule on a mac.

Run olad with the following command:
olad -l 3

And see if you see anything about "anyma"

What are you sending Artnet from? Can you set the destination port to localhost?

Glad you've sorted the uDMX dongle bit Noah.
