Hi list,
As you may know, some of us have been working on an Open Source USB -
DMX512 / RDM interface this past year. This came about because we've
seen problems with the existing interfaces on the market, and knew we
could do better.
The code is available at
https://github.com/OpenLightingProject/ja-rule and we've partnered
with Stellascapes who are building the first hardware as part of their
LightWidgets products. The initial device is called Number1 and we've
reached the milestone where we can release the product to a wider
audience.
So we're announcing a limited release of the Number1. These units will
differ from the final version in that they'll have 2 DMX channels
rather than a single channel. We want to get these into the hands of
people who will test them and contribute to the project in the form of
writing code, creating graphics, writing documentation or helping
others.
Caveats:
- The code to support the second DMX interface isn't written yet.
- You may need to upgrade the bootloader with a PicKit 3 if we find
bugs. These can be purchased from Microchip for $50.
- These units are not 'Enttec Pro Compatible'. Right now they will
only work with OLA and consoles that use OLA like LightKey / DLight /
QLC+ etc.. We are working with the authors of some PC based software
to add support.
- You'll need to run the very latest version of OLA from the git repo
and be prepared to update as we find bugs.
- DMX in is not supported, but the unit will act as an RDM Responder
in various different configurations.
More information about the project and the Number1 device can be found
at
https://www.openlighting.org/ole/
They can be purchased from
http://www.stellascapes.com/#!shop/crjj .
Initial stock is limited until manufacturing is ramped up to match
demand. Note that the Pro Kit version comes in a case, even though
that isn't pictured.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this: Sean, Peter, Josh . We've
still go quite a way to go so if you're willing to help out please get
in contact.
