Kathy has confirmed with Tom that's she's around to meet today. Just need to pick a time. Gareth, I think you and Tom are the only ones available so I guess hook up with him.

Ok, so we met with the very kind Kathy from Dublin contemporary. The space they're offering us is 'Office of Non Compliance' S50 on the 1st floor. It looks great. Check it out here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dN0XQBRMfXg (sorry about the low resolution!)

Here are some question we need to ask Kathy, although I'm sure you guys can think of many more, and more pertinent.

1. When can we have space?

2. How can we get volunteers (and more importantly users) into space with 15 euro fee?

3. To what extent can we modify space (e.g.: stick up signs, graffiti on walls, solder things etc)?

4. What do we need to avoid in the space - e.g.: can we be loud, can we make sparks fly (literally), can we do chemistry etc?

5. How can we ferry materials and people into the space?

6. What are facilities for power, running water, bathroom etc?

7. What hours would we be open to the public?

8. If they have a budget for us, how much is it and how do we get our filthy claws on it. Alternately / also, do they have non-precious furniture, bookshelves etc we can borrow. The more comfortable and hackable the better.

My goodness, my fingers must be trembling  - some major typos on previous message
- most importantly on 2 - which should have read 'without 15 euro fee'

That's... that's definitely workable. Quite large, it seemed.

Yeah, the rooms great. My one worry is that they might not be cool with us letting people in for free... Which is sort of the whole point!

Worst comes to worst, we try to get gallery-viewers interested in
autodidactism - or pretend to be performance art, I suppose. ",)

Seb,
Not sure - we had a whole list of questions for Kathy, but she only had time to meet us for a couple of minutes before we saw the room and we didn't see her after. Tom's compiling all our questions to mail to her today. Room looked lockable, not sure if they'd give us the key.

They don't have that much foot traffic, it looks like.

Room looks good. If we cannot lock the room, is there somewhere we can leave valuables and equipment that is lockable?

Well, the whole gallery has the most insano security staff I've ever seen - complete with camera attached to each security dude etc; so I'd imagine stuff would be pretty safe. Also, can you mail me about that other thing.

Off to college now, chat to ya's later.

I can confirm that the greatest security threat to any equipment is if
the Matrix is hacked and the Agents.
Honestly, I have never seen so many Agents without diplomatic peoples
being in close proximity.

There is a locker-room downstairs for general valuables, and the room
itself seems lockable.
There is a whole building of securitron Mk 4's between any stuffs of
ours and the outside world, theft is among the least of our worries.

There is a minimal condition win, which is that we are 'performance
art'. I am ok with this, for the daft enough reason that at this
point, we exist.
There will be photos and everything! Documentation! Rarr!

Now, no one i know, myself included, will pay 15 euros.
So it is all about how much astroturf haha we can pull along with us,
as 'performing artists' lolz.

Now, before I nag Kathy...what are we actually thinking of installing,
in concrete terms?
And of these things, which are flaggable as potential problems?

YES! This is awesome!

The space looks perfect. I noticed that there were what seemed to be roof beams. If we're going to go for a subdivided rather than open plan style we could hang sheets that section the space up. Obviously they wouldn't block sounds significantly but they would do two things: direct attention towards the sections purpose(talk/discuss/mess/play) and create the illusion of a micro building. A neat layout would be almost circular with a central chamber, led to from the entrance door off, which are pie slice shaped rooms(obviously with squared rather than arced ends). The central chamber could act a a discussion space, for that all we need is a circle of cushions.

If we're not allowed to paint the walls we could allow people to paint the sheets. For sparking stuff the sheets would represent a fire hazard. Though perhaps we could create a "safe spark space". I can offer to lend books on computer science generally, programming, philosophy and a set of speakers.

Stupendous things are stupendous.

I've got a g5 mac, a couple of years old, but loaded to balls with publishing software which I'm happy to lend, general books, other stuff, I'm sure. I also have a large number of pirated books a variety of subjects.

I'd be in favour of splitting the room using furniture, rather than sheets, to keep the sheer range of stuff happening in constant, inspiring view. I like the idea of the discussion area in the middle.

Other questions: Chairs? Are there any available? Tables? Toilets, sinks, food prep area? How early, how late? Cost? For volunteers?

It occurs to me that we might be thinking about this backwards re: furniture etc. As in - if we know we have the room we can ask people to contribute materials and participate in other ways; but right now we don't know if we have it (on an open access basis)
