Hi all.
First post here. Please be gentle...
:)
I am interested in creating a blog concerning openness in government
and finance.

I wondered if anyone could please give me some advice in the best
blogging or whatever software to use regarding the web presentation of
open data?

I have heard lately of Google merging with Freebase and thus Gridworks
for example.

I am also a member of the public=online, open gov and sunshinelabs
groups. To me it might seem a concern to have everything wrapped up
a'la Google, blog, apps etc.

I am basically wondering since this group is more specifically
targeted at finance, whether there would be any advice or relating of
past experience regarding best blog or cms to use that can incorporate
data feeds or info gotten in whatever way possible, turning into
visualization etc? Or workarounds...

Just trying to find my way here. Lots to learn to get started...

Thanks.

Dan

(and sorry in advance for similar cross-posts in similar lists...)

Not sure if I know of a blogging framework that specializes in data
presentation, but have you looked at Socrata or DabbleDB? I know
Socrata spreadsheets can easily be embedded into any blog and they
have some graphing and viz tools you can use. There is also a
whitehouse account already on Socrata (http://www.socrata.com/profile/
whitehouse/bhnt-uir2) that posts data there for easy access. Also it's
Sunlight Labs not Sunshine Labs :-) (I work there).
Best,
Kaitlin

I'd also mention, and like Katy I'm declaring an interest here,
Timetric (timetric.com); we do, amongst other things, embeddable
graphs of more than a million global macro indicators from all over
the shop.

The Guardian newspaper use us on their site.

Best,
Andrew

Thank you guys so much, good info.
Actually I know my post is somewhat of naivety,
I have much research to do and that will be the
point somewhat at first and ongoing, but
I thought I'd finally draw the line in the sand,
if you know what I mean.
Thanks again. Will check out all alternatives.
