Why OpenMarketData.org?

by Emilio Mercado Blog

First of all, Ross and I thank you for visiting OpenMarketData.org and
we hope that this is just the first of many regular visits for you. We
will be your hosts, hopefully stimulating discussions on a wide range
of topics related to the delivery of market data to any consuming
application regardless of it's latency requirements. Ross will lead
the market data technology discussions; I will focus on the business
of market data. Some of our posting will be jointly authored while
others will be our individual solitary musings.

Why OpenMarketData.org?

There are many communities out there encompassing different aspects of
market data and the trading community at large, but it is hard to find
one primarily focused on market data delivery, delivery systems and
applications. Also, as part of our work with with clients, some or all
of the resultant product will be available with an Open Source License
so OpenMarketData.org is a community to comment, contribute and
collaborate with the Collaborative Software Foundation being the
repository for the source and executable code.

An Open Invitation

Without active participation no community can expect to thrive. We
hope to make it easy for you to offer your comments with respect to
the ideas we present in our blog but will also provide a place to ask
questions, respond and see the results of market data specific polls
and most importantly enter into a dialog with other subject matter
experts and developers on the important topics to which you as
community members present and respond.

We look forward to being the facilitators (and sometimes initiators)
of challenging and maybe controversial topics, while helping advance
the business and science of market data delivery.

Going Forward

What's on your mind? Over the next few months, Ross and I would like
to focus on:

** Market Data Delivery Infrastructure Challenges
** Simplicity - low latency vs the rest of the firm
** Revolution Again - is it video all over again
** TCO in a complex environment
** If it ain't broke.....or is it?
** How does open source fit in capital markets?
** Advancing Development
** Re-Inventing the Wheel
** Had we used Open Source to solve OPRA changes,,,
** Tolls
** Product vs code pieces

Cheers,
Emilio
