I am having an issue with the Network Events plug-in. When its added to the signal chain, the port (default 5556) is not opened. Clicking Restart Connection crashes the GUI. This is on Windows 7 (64 bit).

Odd thing is, it was working just fine yesterday. I configured the firewall and connected just fine from a remote PC.

Then today, after a reboot, I can no longer make a connection. I have reinstalled OE GUI (not from source), removed all entries in the firewall and put them back. OE keeps crashing.

It would appear as if a persistent change somewhere on my system is causing this.

Does anyone have any idea how to approach this? Does OE log errors anywhere?

Hi Per,

Does it crashes also when you start recording? In that case you have to click on the 3 vertical lines in the editor and disable the 2 channels in the REC section.
I had the same problem previously.

If the crash occurs when recording, it is the known bug Alessio mentions.

If it crashes when clicking Restart Connection, the issue is something else. Can you try with a different port number? (always higher than 1024). Also, try disabling any firewall you might have, just to see if it could be a change on it what is causing the issue.

Best,
Aarón.

I have the same issue. Every time I click on restart connection open ephys crashes (windows 7, binary downloaded today). I tried to change the port number but when I press "enter" after changing the number, the GUI crashes again. I'm not sure what has changed. The same system was working 2 months ago (even if we always had stability issues when trying to reload a signal chain with a network event source in it).

What could I do to debug that?

Best,
Antonin

Did you solve your problem Per?

I build the "Debug64" version of the plugin-gui (master branch) and the error is still there. When I click on restart connection I get:
Unhandled exception at 0x000007FEFD2BA06D (KernelBase.dll) in open-ephys.exe: 0x40000015:  %hs (parameters: 0x000007FEE782DAD0).

The visual studio debugger point to that line
(L566 of networkevents.cpp):

 result = zmq_recv(responder, buffer, MAX_MESSAGE_LENGTH-1, 0);  // blocking

Anyone has the same problem or has an idea on how to solve that?

(windows7, zeromq 4.0.4 installed)

Hi,
No, the problem persisted and I have since then moved jobs and am no longer using OE.

Best of luck troubleshooting!
