Hi all,

We're building a Neuropixels setup (following the system requirements here), but are missing one key component: the PCI card that interfaces with the PXI chassis. The NI PCIe-8381 we ordered months ago is now delayed until October, and we don't want to wait that long. So I wondered, has anyone successfully tested a Gen 1 (x4) PCI-PXI link, with something like the NI PCIe-8371? Bandwidth will be lower than the Gen 2/x8 link that is recommended, but maybe that's ok when only recording from 1 or 2 probes?

Alternatively, if anyone has a NI PCIe-8381 they can loan or sell us, that would be terrific! (:

Thanks,

-- Matt

Hi Matt,

The data rate for one probe is about 25 MB/s, so the 832 MB/s supported by the 8371 should be fine, even for more than 2 Neuropixels at a time.

Do you know if the PCIe-8398 (Gen 3/x16) is backordered as well? That’s another high-bandwidth option.

Josh

Did you have sucess with the PCIe-8371? I can't seem to find a cable that would connect to the PXIe-8381.

We swapped our order to a PCIe-8382 (the replacement code for the 8381) and it's been happily collecting data for over a month. Once we changed the order, it came in ~1 week.
