Dear colleagues:

We are using open ephys for last two years, suddenly this issue began, where in, the signals from input and output board (TTL of 5v, 10 ms or 5v, 500 ms) are not coming on analog channels or digital output (colored bands on recording) suddenly. We test it again with oscilloscope, only digital or analog works, we thought its a glitch and resumed our recording, but lost TTL signals again on either of them. At a time only either digital input connected board works or the analog connected input board works. Both are not working simultaneously.

Now both are not working, when we do checks with oscilloscope, only analog or digital works, the other doesn't (its like somedays the digital input works, on others the analog input works).

Also, we see leak of ch 4 connected input on all channels in analog HDMI channels (1-8); we see leak of channel 6 on 7 and 8 only.

We use GUI ve6.6(plugin API v8); JUCE v6.0.8 on a windows 10, AMD ryzen 5 3600 6 core processor (12 core),with open ephys ECP5-ONI FPGA open gateware version v1.0

We are thinking if updating GUI software might help (as we are using old)
or

Should we shield it with aluminium wrap (fear short circuiting the board)

or

Connect the ground pin on the input and output board to the common ground

Please suggest on how to resolve

Thanking you for your time.

Hi Srinivas,

It's possible that the HDMI connectors on your acquisition board have come loose – are you able to wiggle them at all?

When you're unable to see analog or digital signals, is the problem present regardless of which BNC connector is being used to acquire the signal? Or is it limited to only certain connectors?

Some signal leakage across unconnected analog input channels is expected, that's not something you need to worry about.

Josh

Dear Josh:

I have tried both the boards, its working only on analog channels. Neither of the boards works on digital HDMI input (we don't see bands on open ephys GUI - as it was working perfectly just 1 week back).
The fits of the HDMI cable male adapter into the female adapter on DAC board are snug, there is no loose connection.

Could you please advise.

Thank you.

Hi Srinivas,

What are you using to generate your digital signals? Can you confirm with an oscilloscope that these signals are in the 0-5V range?

And do you have two acquisition boards, both of which are failing to detect digital inputs? Or two I/O boards, both of which do not seem to transmit digital inputs to the same acquisition board?

I don't think upgrading the software will help, this is most likely a hardware issue.

Hi Josh:
Yes, I checked with Oscilloscope and 5v is being generated, a Rigol function generator is being used for triggering optical LED setup, and signal is split for I/O board, the input at I/O board is 5v, as measured by oscilloscope. The other 5V is connected to TTL of optical set up for triggering it.
Yes, both acquisition boards work when connected to analog port, as we can see signals in ADC channels. However, when connected to digital channel, it stops working.

Hi Srinivas,

Just to be sure, do you have the event overlay buttons (marked 1-8 in the LFP Viewer) toggled on?

Are you able to see any digital events in the recorded data?

Josh

Hi John: Yes, it was toggled on.

Earlier it was working, suddenly its not.
However, now we don;t see digital events triggered by TTL on the screen, even though it shows up on analog channels if connected.
