Hi All,

I'm setting up a new system to do simultaneous neuropixel and tetrode or single channel recordings. I'd like to use the Open Ephys GUI if possible, but testing it is a little difficult since the neuropixel components are delayed, and we don't have an acquisition system for the tetrode recordings yet either. I'd like to confirm that the Open Ephys acquisition box would work for the tetrodes/single channel recordings if I get some intan headstages. Specifically, can the GUI can handle three different input sources (Neuropixel, NI DAQ, & the OE acquisition box)? I know I can add the neuropixel and DAQ modules, and merge them together. I was also able to add in a File Reader to simulate another acquisition system (I added another plugin between), then merged all three together before a record node. Could I do the same using an Open Ephys acquisition system in place of the File Reader? If so, is August still the next time the acquisition boxes will be available?

Thanks!
Lowell Thompson

Hi Lowell,

This configuration works great, we use it routinely at the Allen Institute. And if you connect the Neuropixels digital output SMA to the NIDAQ + Acquisition Board digital inputs, all three data streams will synchronized automatically.

Unfortunately it looks like August will be the next Acquisition Board ship date – you should place an order now to make sure it's delivered as soon as possible.

Josh
