Hi all

I will need to start to build a new rig for neuropixels this year and I would like to base it on the new system.  There are many reasons why this system seems to be the perfect fit for my experimental needs (or at least the best starting point).
Sadly, it appears that the production site will not be able to produce and sell this system this year and cannot make a forecast about when this will be possible (and it's too late to be a beta tester).

Therefore I would be willing to assemble the system together myself (I would probably need to modify it anyway).
But would the developers be willing to share their projects?
Hopefully this message will reach them :)

Feedbacks from anybody having any information is appreaciated
Thanks in advance for the help.

Marco

Hi Marco,

Cool! Glad you think the system might work for you. All the hardware designs are available on the ONIX repo:

We have a growing set of documentation on the ONIX docs website:

That said, this system does some pretty complex stuff under the hood in order to combine all the data signals from various sensors and actuators on the headstages into a high bandwidth data stream. You will need to be pretty familiar with HDLs and FPGAs in order to modify things. Have a look through the docs and let me know what you think. A good place to start would be perhaps helping us finish those up since that will be required knowledge for modification and would allow you to think deeply about the constraints and benefits of our designs and how exactly you would modify them.

Additionally, since we hope modifications of the system will one day be common, it might be good to think about ideas for making some sort of "protoboard" at least for the headstage. The beauty of the design is that all the data arbitration and serialization is taken care of for you. It would be nice to just have a headstage development kit with that functionality and a bunch of IO broken out to test various custom applications.
