Hi All,

We are hoping to start recording some EMG (not EEG) using Open Ephys, similar to the 2017 J Neural Engineering paper (Black et al. link).

We have a question about the EEG breakout board. Can this particular board be purchased somewhere? Table 1 lists www.seeedstudio.com as the supplier, but we didn't seem to find it here (nor at the Open Ephys store).

The wiki (link) lists some files about the board - is this something that we'll need to build?

Thanks for any advice - we aren't specifically wedded to this board (any alternative that will allow at least 16 channels or so, and can interface with the headstage will do).

Thanks so much for your help,
Scott

Hi Scott,
afaik no one is selling these as-is - but you can use the files provided on that link to order PCBs from any PCB supplier.
You need to provide the company with the 'gerber' files and they'll need some information about how thick you want the PCB to be (~1.6mm is standard for this) and thats about it. Should be quite cheap and fast. https://jlcpcb.com/ is another good company for this kind of thing.
You then need to buy and solder the omnetics and eeg-specific connectors yourself.

If this is too technically tricky or risky for you let us know and we can see if there might be some company that can custom assemble a few for you but that will much more expensive.

best,
Jakob

Thank you for the response, Jakob.

I wonder, are there publicly available PCB design files for version 2 of the board? We would need that as it includes the additional connectors to facilitate our desired EMG recordings. The currently available files on the OpenEphys Wiki and GitHub are for version 1.

All the best,

Paul Hage (colleague of OP)

Hi Paul,
Sorry I don't know- maybe try reaching out to Chris?
You should also be able to add whatever you need with the free version of eagle and make your own gerber files.
If you have not done this before it will require looking up some tutorials though, its not hard but also not a super intuitive process.

best,
jakob
