Hi everyone,

After months of testing and refinement, we’re thrilled to announce the official release of Open Ephys GUI v1.0, now available for download at open-ephys.org/gui. This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without your feedback, bug reports, and plugin contributions. Thank you for being part of this effort!

For minimal disruption with existing workflows, you can run v1.0 alongside your current installation by extracting the executable from a .zip package. The new version maintains backward compatibility with v0.6.x settings files, though we recommend verifying all signal chain parameters after loading older configs.

Since the plugin API has been updated in v1.0, all plugins will need to be reinstalled. This process won’t affect any plugins you’re using in v0.6.x, as those are stored in a separate directory. Any custom plugins your lab has developed will need to be made compatible with the new API and re-compiled. If you need assistance with this process, feel free to reach out to g...@open-ephys.org.

For those using the Open Ephys Acquisition Board, the updated Acquisition Board plugin now integrates *all* hardware variants—including Opal Kelly FPGA-based systems and our new 3D-enabled Acquisition Board (available in the Open Ephys store).

Moving forward, this forum will focus on support for the Open Ephys GUI (or hardware troubleshooting you face while using the software). For discussions about other Open Ephys store products or general electrophysiology techniques, please join the Open Ephys Discord.

We can’t wait to hear about the amazing science that will be enabled with the upgraded GUI!

Best,

Josh, Pavel, and Anjal
