Hi All,

I was searching for Open EIT and found the following link:
http://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007%2F978-3-642-15853-7_20

This is a book chapter called:

Open Electrical Impedance Tomography: Computer Simulation and System Realization

By
Wei He, Bing Li, Chuanhong He, Haijun Luo, Zheng Xu
in
Life System Modeling and Intelligent Computing
Communications in Computer and Information Science Volume 97, 2010, pp 163-170

I've never heard of this group and have no idea what they could be
talking about.
But it's interesting they're using the Open EIT name. This isn't a
problem, but I'm
just wondering if anyone else has heard of them.

Comments?

Hi,
I am attaching an IEEE conference proceedings paper that illustrates the concept of "open EIT". The authors do not seem to be the same, at first look, but they are from the same departament/university.

In short, they develop a planar array of electrodes. they call this "open" in contrast to conventional EIT where the electrodes form a "closed" circle around the boundary.

Hi All,

they also had a paper at last year's conference in china.

Design in and discussion of portable open electrical impedance tomography (EIT) system
Wei He, Peng Ran, Zheng Xu, Kang Ju, Bing Li

Thanks a lot. Now I understand.

I wonder if, in 1911, Conrad Schlumberger called it "Open EIT" when he
did the same configuration in his bath?

At any rate, I don't think we have a problem using the name for our file format

I think the group has been working on EIT for over 10 years. They wrote a book in chinese about the therory of EIT, which I have bought ^_^

anyway, I don't think it would be a problem using the name OEIT.

Hi Andy,

The chapter is about a planar electrode array EIT system as opposed to an array that encompasses the object to imaged. They show interest in breast imaging. So for them, (O)EIT is a simple planar array (no different than the old and defunct t-scan units) and (C)EIT is an EIT array that wraps around the patient (like the Dartmouth breast imaging system). I imagine they chose "open" with a nod to an open MR unit. They call it novel, but it doesn't appear to be any different than research from the last few decades.
