Hi folks,

I wanted to let you know that our next general Wikimedia NYC meeting
will be -tomorrow afternoon- on Sunday November 15 at Columbia
University.

One of our guests at this meeting will be Ann Matsuuchi, librarian at
CUNY Laguardia, who we are working with for a 'Wikipedia in the
Classroom' presentation at the CUNY IT conference on December 4:

Hi Pharos,

I would love to ...but so swamped today with work and homework back to the learning environment.  I'll be in NYC next Saturday.

I really would like to meet with the group.  I'm doing a research for Open Education and I'm struggling for a working thesis argument since it's a huge topic.

But  I want to focus more on How can school can maximize OER.

Any input and suggestion from the group will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Cheers,
mafe

Hi Mafe,

From the Wikimedia side of things, one thing that has always impressed
me is when students can learn by creating their own OER:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Murder_Madness_and_Mayhem
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jbmurray/Madness

I think I'm going to try to promote this list more in the next week or
two, so we can build up more of the critical mass for holding
semi-regular Open Education meetings.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Mafe,

I know its only a slice of the OER picture, but you can check out what
we are doing at www.flatworldknowledge.com. We can also help out with
general info on OER with respect to textbooks.
