DRINKING WATER

Assumptions:
* 30 people
* 2-5L for drinking, washing, cooking a day, so 60-150L/day
* shower water not included in this budget

Proposal:
* drinking water will be fetched from the spring using CF van,
200-300L at a time using the current system of pumps and water bottles
to fill the containers
* we will allocate THREE 200L barrels for storing water near where CF
van parks, giving us worst case two days of water, and TWO barrels for
transporting via van.
* each will have a separate tap as this is easier to work with
* the existing clear plastic 8L bottles will be used to
collect/store/transport water for the kitchen area
* barrels will be placed on top of a platform at least 30cm high (to
get 8L bottles under)

Action items:
* EG: build platform for drinking water barrels (palettes? earthbag?)
* CF: buy 4 x additional barrels (we need more, easiest to buy new):
12 euros
* CF: buy 2 x additional taps for barrels, approx 8 euros

TOILET

Proposal:
* We will need a second toilet: current one won't cope with 30 people,
but keep it as a backup in case of issues with new one
* Second toilet will be dry toilet, humanure-in-a barrel style
* Allocate TWO barrels for new toilet
* Requires three sheets of OSB plus some of the straight wood we have
* Decided not to put water near toiler but will buy hand sanitiser,
have tap for hand washing near kitchen

Action items:
* CF: buy hand sanitiser
* CF: buy more wood screws: 10 euros
* CF/EG: build new toilet (1 day)
* ALL: collect/make sawdust for toilet

SHOWER

Assumptions:
* Showers are about 10L each
* We'll be swimming a fair bit so people may not shower every day anyway
* Shower water does not need to drinking water quality (can sit around
for a few days)
* Current camp shower bag not sufficient, will not last until camp anyway

Proposal:
* one shower, current one is sufficient (CF says at Glastonbury two
showers were manageable for a crew of 300!)
* we will experiment with building a thermosiphon solar flat plat
collector and storage system OR a compost heap heating system (since
it's summer I'm tending toward the former), but extra camp shower bags a
possibility
* people must either bring their own eco products for shower etc, or
they can contribute a few euros towards a fund that we use to buy it for
them
* need to decide where the water for the shower comes from / how it
gets there - if we had a decent pump we could get it from the stream

Action items:
* EG: build occupied/free sign like toilet
* EG: contact eco shop near Plasencia
* CF: buy additional camp shower bag as backup (10 euros?)
* ALL: prototype shower system
* ALL: work our system to supply shower water

KITCHEN

Assumptions:
* People have two options: either they pay some money and work some
shifts in our kitchen, OR they are completely self sufficent food and
cooking wise
* We make this very clear - there will not be capacity in the kitchen
for two separate groups to be cooking separate meals.
* Current dual burner gas stove is good but not sufficient for everything
* Need kitchen area big enough for 3-4 people to work in
* Need self service table to put salads, bread, fruit etc on
* People will want to drink cold beer
* Cooking area needs shade, but doesn't need covered roof - we can
move into dome if it's raining and we need to.
* People bring their own cups, plates, cutlery etc.

Proposal:
* Extend shade structure to be 10m x 4m covering dining area and
kitchen area
* New cooking area made from single OSB sheet, approx 2.5m wide
* Current cooking area returns to being a wash station
* Buy 20L water container with tap for wash station
* Buy separate water container with tap for hand washing.
* Use current 1.2m x 0.5m dining table for self service table
* Build new dining table 2.5m x 1.25m from OSB sheet - should seat
around 20 people which is enough.
* Build long stools from cut OSB for sitting at table.
* Ask local people (Gabby/Jon/people coming to camp) if we can borrow
large cooking pots, if not buy something
* Allocate three barrels to waste and recycling: glass, plastic, paper.
* Allocate one barrel for storing cold beer/drinks, insulate it, get
ice for drinks, charge 1 euro for cheap beer / soft drinks, 2 euros for
better/larger beer
* Honesty bar: bottle people can place money into
* Fetch ice daily: someone will be usually heading off site every day
* Compost as we do now, but with bigger bucket for transporting to
compost heap
* Use small stove from CF van is needed, bu try and borrow a second
stove from someone.
* Current perishable food storage structure under tree seems to
working OK, is probably big enough
* New storage area under cooking area for dry goods etc.

Action items:
* ALL: build new cooking area / table / stools
* CF: buy two water containers with taps
* CF: review dietary requirements from survey
* CF: buy dedicated water boiling pot (10 euros?)
* CF: buy some kind of cafeteria/plunger for making coffee (10 euros?)
* CF: buy insect proof plastic containers for dry goods storage (15
euros?)
* CF: ask Jon is we can borrow his gas fridge while he's away
* CF: buy larger bucket for compost (2 euros?)
* CF: buy garden fork for compost (10 euros?)

CAMPING

Assumptions:
* Want to keep vehicles away from main area as much as possible
* Current path still pretty bad but fixable
* Shade in morning priority for people camping
* Can only fit about five tents under big tree
* Other trees can probably provide enough additional shade areas -
don't need to build camping shade area

Proposal:
* Do half a day of work to repair current path
* All camping vehicles park by gate (except CF van!)
* Most other vehicles park by fence on west side of property
* Possibility of making new gate on side of property for vehicles. but
possibly expensive to buy gate and probably not required
* Extend 12v lighting system: need one for dome, one for kitchen, one
for table so two extra lights

Action items:
* ALL: clear parking area by fence
* ALL: survey other shaded places and clear space
* ALL: make signs.
* EG: ask locals about other swimming places
* CF: make cinema screen and test
* CF: buy/install two more 12v lights (23 euros?)

WORKSHOPS

Assumptions:
* 3D printing will need to be in dome - under cover, near power etc
* Dome is currently unusble for this purpose - it's a sauna, not 100%
waterproof, full of junk - structure will need to be improved.
* Lots of people will be wanting to plug in their laptops

Action items:
* AI: do power budget for 3D printing workshops
* CF: do power budget for rest of workshops
* EP: talk to Spanish permaculture people re requirements for their
workshop
* CF: talk to other permaculture people
* CF/EG: get quotes for strawbale materials
* CF: get list of possible straw suppliers
* EG: talk to co-op re straw and other straw people
* CF: make rough timetable for camp
* CF: make second page of poster with details
* CF: fix laser printer
* CF/EG: fix web site
* ALL: distribute copies of poster locally

I have a little experience with thermosyphon solar showers, let me know
if you want any info.

~ When will you be building the shower?
~ How many people are coming to the camp?
~ What are the workshops?
~ Is there a Facebook/Couchsurfing event for it?

I'm looking to arrive some time late July, build some stuff, stick
around for the camp and give some workshops. Probably along the lines of
solar and temperature regulation.

I've been sharing a couple of the links on FB but they're not coming out
correctly formatted by default (text says something about twitter or
whatever, rather than the first paragraph of the actual page). You might
want to fix this, easy sharing on social media is your friend.

Daniel.

Thanks for the update. I'm getting quite excited!!

Is there any online space (other than here) where you are co-ordinating
work on camp preparation?

Was wondering if there are any tasks that need doing that could be done
remotely and the best way to organise this?

I've looked at the wiki - http://wiki.openeland.org/index.php/Main_Page

The form to apply for an account didnt appear to work for me -
http://openeland.org/wiki-account-request/ (the CAPTCHA isnt working)

and the Bettermeans workstream

http://secure.bettermeans.com/projects/3236/dashboard

I just added a new task and moved some to finished. I really like the
concept behind Bettermeans and think it could be a good place to
coordinate some stuff.

Neither Bettermeans or the wiki have been used for some time. Either
would facilitate more open participation in work around Open E Land.

I'm keen to support - particularly interested in organisational
structure and helping to find ways to get more participation and
visibility for the project (not just the camp).

Wondering where people now at the site think is the best place to
coordinate collaboration?

Was wondering if the numbers expected at the camp are sufficient given
the infrastructure on site or if you think its still a good idea to
promote the event?

Hello Darren,

After the updates of Christopher, the work of coordination is been made by the ones on site.

Yes the wiki needs to be improved, but it depends on the time someone wants and can to dedicate to it. For the project development it's the same. So, if you want to help somehow, just let us know what is it you can do and so we can coordinate it.

Best

Ezequiel

I'm keen for Open E Land to be as open to remote participation as possible.

The wiki isn't used much at the moment. We're not very well setup for
online work right at the moment. Once we have some more of the
infrastructure working we'll have a little more time.

The most useful things that could be done remotely right now is probably
helping coordinate people.

Is someone interested in volunteering to organising some kind of lift
offered/wanted page? Not everyone coming is very technical so it might
be useful to offer email help too if possible.

There'll be a timetable / camp information / registration page to review
in a few days.

Christopher.

PS: I have a Hyundai H100 van I'm keen for you to take a look at when
you get here :-)
