THOUGH I CAN’T REMEMBER…

I tried always to remember,
The things of life without number,
Dates and times, papers and folders,
Places to go with routes ad maps,
Faces to seek and plans to share.

Until one day I found it lost,
The things I sought and needed most.
As you lose things it’s needless to tell,
You lose courage and it isn’t well,
With places to reach and promises to keep.

I sat in wonder, as I did ponder,
Praying, ‘Lord, if I can’t remember’
Sleeping and awake, trying to make,
One-to-one matching, for ever watching,
The way seemed longer, and my steps shorter.

Then in my sleep, my soul did leap,
And prayed, Lord, I’ll be grateful though forgetful;
The core of my life, I wonder,
Runs well with things I can’t remember,
As the Lord is awake through my slumber.
