Your session starts 15 minutes after the beginning of the hour, and continues until 15 minutes before the end of the assessment, giving you time to set-up and clean up your room.

There may or may not be time directly following the assessment to for the assessors to give you feedback, but we will endeavour to do so where possible.

Kind regards,

Thanks for your patience as I have made my way through an unwieldy but I think extremely full marking process. As much as I am aware that this course has challenged you, I want to congratulate you all on pulling out the stops to take on the practice skills of writing and reviewing literature about a selected topic.

The following remarks are for general consumption and highlight my hope that some of you will extend your academic studies beyond this year. Writing and researching is arduous – it is a disciplined process and you have made the first steps into it. As you know our massage world is crying out for good researchers and studies that fit state of the art wellbeing modalities within an extensive medical and healthcare framework. Even your early work in this realm reflect researchers’ efforts for better access to the range of ways we consider personal to global health.

Your group efforts (google doc) and various previous assignments were designed  to assist you in the problem of locating a topic, so that you could respond passionately, which  is important. The accumulative effect of your work was evident for the most part, although I think your individual work around critiquing your articles could have added more – you know how to make sense of a quality article and to draw what others had to say into your argument – there was too much hesitancy about the value of new research (e.g. too small a sample etc_ without the recognition of the way research creates a jigsaw of knowledge – i.e. if these small sample did not occur – we would never be able to get the research grants for the larger sized ones!).

However, you have all maintained an excellent focus on your topic – so - my comments and corrections are delivered form two perspectives.

1. Clearing up grammar and structure so that you can write well – to be able to say what it is you want to say as well as reflect what others are (starting) to say as well. In this way you get to sit with the “community” of massage therapy researchers.

2. The second has been more difficult. I have tried to respond to your ideas and the threads of your arguments. Early days I know for you all and I have given you loads of (probably quite frustrating) feedback.

To ensure that your work does not get marked beyond the Level expected in the assessment schedule I have marked you all against the schedule and your final grade therefore is as per the official Research Methods Assessment Schedule -on the front page - and behind that page I have attached a more detailed explanation about my marking process. Taken together with the comments on the actual assignment I hope that, if you do want to continue, you will be able to use these structural and argument feedback pathways accordingly.

I really do want to acknowledge your efforts – and your trust that I would read your work empathetically as well as academically. With kind, good wishes for your world of massage : )
