I can't find documented any where what user permissions are needed if Getdown is to successfully install and/or update files (Windows).

Our software is generally used on machines where users do not have admin permissions. With applets and JWS this was not a problem but we are trying to move away from these, and are investigating using Getdown as an alternative.

However I can't find anything about what permissions are required for Getdown to successfully run and download files on Windows (or any OS, but only Windows is relevant for us).

Would the user need 'write' permission to the directory in which our software is installed? Would they also need 'execute' permission? Any other permissions?

I don't know much about Windows permissions, but I think a user does need write permission in the directory in which the software is installed. Getdown does not do any sort of privilege escalation when it performs an update, so it will attempt to write to the application install directory using the privileges of the user that executed the application.
