Latest version extremely sluggish

I've noticed that the latest version seems to be excessively sluggish on my 2Gig core2 duo laptop.  It seems to completely freeze the output for 10-30 seconds any time I change directories in the file browser, and sometimes stops taking input from the mouse while playing back a medium complexity setup... so I have to kill the program and re-run it (which looks very unprofessional in the middle of a show).  Any idea why that is?  It's strange, because it doesn't seem to be related to the complexity of the show, since after a re-start, if I arrange the same clips with the same effects, it seems to run smoothly.

One other question... what's the format of the output of the recorder?  I'd like to convert clips I recorded that way back to SWFs since an SWF seems to be smaller and load more quickly back into onyx.

Thanks

Jeff

try to update to AIR 2, but I have another idea:
SWF for old versions of flash containing actionscript 2 (not 3) code
cause problems, try to rearrange library to find the bad SWFs
recorder output is a collection of images, not yet SWF export is
possible.

Almost all of my files were converted using the -f avm2 format.  Is that the correct version of actionscript?

Yes, use in the ffmpeg command
line the flag -f avm2 instead of -f swf

Well, things seem to have gotten worse.  I removed some suspect files from the library, and it seemed to be better until I started my show tonight.  For some reason, tonight, any time I have more than 3 clips loaded at the same time, the program is so sluggish, it's unusable (the UI won't respond to the mouse).  It's wierd, because I haven't added any clips since last week, when, although there was a big slowdown when I changed directories, it at least let me work as normal with all 5 clips loaded.  Any ideas?

well, one thing i have noticed is that when clips have audio or are very long / big, the whole bottleneck issue arises because it seems to me that your entire folder that is open is loaded into memory - and playing!!! this is probably to have them cued to make the smooth transition stuff, however even with 4gb memory on my laptop and many services shut down to open the processor for performance issues, it can slow down to the point where it doesn't even respond anymore and i have to kill the program. my dumb workaround for this is to have a video full-screen cued up behind the onyx presentation screen, and behind that a full screen logo...

suggestion: use folders with no more than 10 small clips and no audio.

cheers

Daniel is right about checking the clips' sizes but I think there is a problem with your computer.
we do 4h shows without performance issues with a 1gb RAM pc, so check you have AIR2, antivirus up to date, and performance monitor, etc.

Not sure what's up with that windows install, but I installed onyx on my linux partition, and it runs beautifully, using the same clip directory i'm using in windows...  the only problem is I can't figure out how to get the TV Out working right in linux......
