From a few false starts and hints picked up from message boards, am I
right in thinking that onyx doesn't handle mp4, m4v, wmv, avi or flv
files?

I get the feeling that swf is okay for video files, but when I tried
using a screencapture made with Jing and saved as swf, whilst I can
get it to be recognised in the onyx file browser (thumbnail shows
first frame), and drag it successfully into a layer, I can only see
the first frame and not play the movie within the layer?

Not being a flash user, my assumption would be that swf might be able
to encode both autostart and loop instructions, and that these are
required if a swf file is to play out as a movie... or have I totally
misunderstood what's going on, and am I missing a trick somewhere?

thanks
tony

Onyx handles all the file formats flash player does: swf, flv, gif,
jpg, png, mp3...
I don't know about Jing, but you can create swfs from flash pro, or
convert with ffmpeg (with -avm2 option to target flash player 9 or
later)

Jing is a cross platfrom screen capture app (with free plan) from
Techsmith. One output option is swf, but it doesn't seem to play in
onyx (only shows first frame). If I convert the Jing produced swf to
avi (using quicktime), upload the avi to videopong, then import into
onyx as videopong created swf, it's fine...

re ffmpeg - my mac doesn't have compiler tools, and ffmpeg is a self-
compile bit of code I think?

Thanks to Videopong then!
A compiled version of ffmpeg on mac is ffmpeg.dat I think

Hey Tony,

Try SWFknife to (tag) or convert your captured swf into a swf 9.
Maybe it works.
