Some important things to remember when submitting story ideas, HTMYS, first drafts and final drafts:
When you email submissions, please put your name and a short description of your piece in the subject line:
For example: John Doe - Soul Speech Submission, or Jane Doe - Multicultural Feature Piece, would be acceptable
When you submit story ideas, make sure you include in the subject line: your name, story idea, and date
For example: Wynn Doe - Story Idea - 10/05/09 (so we know it's the November/December issue)
Please send things in .doc format, just to be safe.
Timeliness:
Please submit your articles and other submission ON TIME. When you are late, that sets back graphic design, copy edit, and all other aspects of the magazine.
What We’re Looking For:
We are looking for pieces that are original, creative, versatile, well-researched and well-rounded. Please make sure you meet with Jordan (copy-edit) to discuss your piece after the first draft, Jasmine (graphic design)if you have a spread, and do your best to provide your own pictures with the piece.
INTERVIEW GUIDE COMING SOON
PLEASE GIVE AN ISSUE TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR PIECE!
