Call for Papers: Special Issue of Interaction Studies
Theme: Participating in interaction: Human, artificial, and other more-than-human perspectives
Submission deadline: 30 June 2026

Interaction Studies, an international, peer-reviewed journal, invites submissions for a special issue exploring the theme of participation in interaction. We welcome interdisciplinary contributions that advance our understanding of the notion of interaction, and in particular of participation in interaction.

Among the topics that the special issue draws attention to are:

  • Theories and approaches from the agents viewpoint:
How does an agent participate in an interaction? What types of entities can participate in a (social) interaction? How humans and more-than-human entities are recognized as participants in interaction?
  • Types of resources and capabilities for interaction from an intersubjective perspective:
What resources and capabilities are necessary to engage in a certain type of interaction, and in social interaction in particular?
  • Taxonomy of interactions and interactional agents: How can one build a robust and inclusive taxonomy of agents including humans, non-human animals and artificial agents? How can one classify interaction based on the participating entities and their capabilities?

Submission guidelines: Please consult the journal’s website for author instructions and submission details.
