I apologize to anybody and everybody who has been annoyed about any of my notes.

I actually love LLM technology for what it can do.  It is extremely powerful for certain kinds of applications.  And our Permion.ai company uses it extensively  --  but with more traditional symbolic AI methods for evaluating, detecting, and preventing bad, dangerous, or unwanted side effects.

But LLMs are so powerful that many people have been using them without sufficient safeguards -- and got burned.  When I came across those examples, I posted them as warnings.

I'll avoid posting items that just duplicate the typical errors, and I will post good examples of what can and should be done.

Dear John,

As I young researcher i really appreciate your insights and advices. Already read your works (even though more specific reading is needed) and found your insights especially about Pierce interesting. For example tonight pre ISM conference pierce was mentioned ( actually drinking czech biers with some scholars) and therefore recommended and mentioned your work.

For us, as young researchers its crucial to deliver your ideas. However as others noticed, you are more aggressive towards other approaches (it is somewhat understandable). Therefore I dont know but I personally would like to know about YOUR ideas (maybe updates on your books?) instead of criticizing others.

I am wishing you and your loved ones the best.

Regards,
Alican

Hi John,

I believe a public apology always deserves a response, especially from a protagonist, me, that raised issues engendering the apology. I thank you for so doing.

Further, while I aspire to Christian virtues and hold grace in the greatest esteem, my assessment is that I have small reservoirs of both grace and patience. Were it otherwise. Again, in the hope I gain a little grace (as if it is some kind of liquid one can decant), I need to thank you for your public comments.

But I also have to be honest to say that your apology is not for what I raised issues with you in the first place. Your 'warnings' about LLM and the general sense conveyed that we needed protection from the evils of a new technology I have mostly found annoying and presumptuous, not disturbing. I blow issues of this nature off all the time.

What caused me to comment was for you to take a very useful paper, simply provided, and hijack the thread to present a narrative completely orthogonal to the paper topic of LLMs as an efficiency aid to the development and maintenance of knowledge graphs (FYI, I, too, use KGs and ontologies interchangeably as does the paper). BTW, this is a perfect topic for this forum.

I won't repeat my earlier emails, but the points raised had to do with off-topic arguments and narratives that had everything to do with what you wanted to say, not to what the topic (KGs and LLMs) was at hand. The hijacking of a potentially useful thread with the repeating of your oft-repeated arguments was what triggered me. For that, I apologize; I perhaps should have let the irritant drift off into the wind.

So, thank you for your apology. But I can not be full-hearted on this thanks until there is real communication.

Mike
