Well that is clarified.
Sigh, looks like I have to start mustering my insincerity for the front desk it seems. Let's see...
options bloat = wide availability of character customization
rules bloat = depth
punitive scenarios = challenging
inconsistency in difficulty = surprises
rules inconsistency = creativity
terribly made pregens = flavourful pregens
So here we go.
Welcome to Pathfinder. The system which offers a wide availability of character customization to be played in a variety of deep scenarios. Scenarios can be challenging but we play from all levels from beginner to advanced with enough surprises to keep most players engaged (angry rants on the Paizo forum are a mode of engagement). Creatively produced scenarios ensure that you never play with the same rules twice (if you knew the rules of the game you were playing then it wouldn't be fair). Never played before, Paizo has taken the courtesy of preparing flavourful pregenerated characters most of which are quite accessible and should be able to survive most adventures they are tiered for. My favourites are Harsk and Reiko. Just look at the teapot in Harsk's picture, it's actually in his inventory. Comes in handy in all kinds of situations. Once saw a player trap a tiny fey in it, it was great (this is the most useful Harsk has ever been with the gear given to him). You may also want to consider Lem, Seoni, Ezren, Kyra and Valeros. Knowledge nobility was increasingly useful in season seven which was only two years ago, Lem is not at all a passive plus one to hit and damage. Wizard and sorcerer are among the most powerful classes in the game. Ezren throws his staff and it comes back to him (this is the only way I've seen anyone have fun playing Ezren). Kyra is great at keeping other characters from dying (all you will ever do is heal, right up until the time that Kyra dies). Seoni totally has enough hit points and defensive options if there's another arcane caster at the table willing to share some wands and scrolls. Oh I could go on...
Needs some refining, I think. At least I have the better part of a month to work on it.
At least the pitch for Starfinder will be easy. "Come give Starfinder a chance, don't worry if you don't know the rules. We don't know them either. There are pregens, Paizo has given me a lot of time to familiarize myself with their backstories."
