Position: High School Climate Challenge - Ontario Coordinator
Organization: Clean Air Champions
Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Job Posting -- Part Time

Term: 8 Month Contract (with possibility of being extended into 12
month contract)
Start Date: As soon as possible -- preferably starting mid
November2010

Expected Work Hours: 22.5 hours/week

Position Title: High School Climate Challenge Ontario Coordinator

High School Climate Challenge (HSCC) is a program of Clean Air
Champions (CAC), a national, registered charity based in Ottawa,
Ontario. The mission of CAC is to improve air quality by working with
respected athletes to educate and inspire Canadians to adopt practices
and lifestyles that enhance personal and environmental health (http://
www.cleanairchampions.ca).

The HSCC program, currently being implemented in BC and Ontario,
engages youth to lead in-school greenhouse gas emissions audits using
an online calculator, and develop strategies and actions to reduce the
ecological impact of school institutions and activities. This dynamic
program addresses major and critical issues of air quality, climate
change and related health issues, and will engage youth in a way that
inspires them to become agents of change. Key features of the program
are an online carbon footprint calculator, our Champion (athlete)
presenters, university student mentors and a Web 2.0 site that
features curriculum materials for high school grades. A more complete

The ideal candidate is self motivated, organized and has excellent
written and spoken communication skills. Preferably you have
experience working with high school aged youth and school communities
and a history of working in areas of environmental sustainability or
related project management.
You must have a fully equipped home office for this position.

Responsibilities:

Play a lead role in outreach to schools and implementation of program
in schools in Ontario (database and network support provided)

Assist with the recruitment and training of Champions (athletes) and
university student mentors

Communicate regularly with Program Manager and provide weekly progress
reports

Assist in organizing related workshops and be prepared to deliver
presentations on the HSCC program as needed for its promotion

Track program results in an organized manner and produce reports as
required to meet program work plans, deliverables, and book-keeping
needs

Assist in program evaluation as detailed in reporting forms including
preparation of required reports (typically mid-term and final reports)
with recommendations

Utilize various online tools and software for preparation of
communications materials including newsletters and social media
updates

Qualifications:

* A university degree in a relevant fields of study (Environment,
Science, Health, Education) and/or equivalent work experience
* Excellent communication, organizational, analytic and writing skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both
independently and within a team environment
* Ability to priorize tasks and self-manage workload to timelines and
deadlines
* Ability to learn quickly and multi-task
* Proven experience in program implementation
* Excellent word processing and excel spreadsheet skills
* Must be able to work from an equipped home office that includes PC,
printer, and internet.
* Flexible to meet with program partners and school members during
normal working hours
* A positive attitude and ability to work well with people
* Some travel may be required (travel costs will be reimbursed)
* Familiarity with online social media tools, Adobe Illustrator and
InDesign are all assets

Pay will be commensurate with experience.
