Provincial bailout for Nortel pensioners

http://www.ottawasun.com/news/ottawa/2010/02/07/12780701.html

So let me get this straight:

I get to pay more in taxes to pay for a private pension plan gone bad? Why
is this the taxpayers' problem to fix?

STFU and pay your damn taxes... our taxes aren't high enough, I want
to pay more.

Thanks Dalton.

What kills me is that we all have access to OAS and CPP. The somebody that
promised them more is not the taxpayer, and if they get anything from their
Nortel pensions at all, they get more than the rest of us do. We want
extra, we have to save for it ourselves. They want extra, apparntly we have
to sacrifice for that too. This is a bad deal for the taxpayer, and should
not be allowed to happen.

You are 100% correct... too bad Dalton thinks that these Nortel
pensioners are voting for him, it's time that the ordinary schmuck who
gets shafted by this crap gets a say. When does the next teacher
negotiation start up? Probably just in time for the next election...

Why the hell can't they take that $21M bonus and fund the pensions?
Sounds like that's too obvious of a plan to me.

It wasn't.

The should have been forced to go through CCAA from the outset.

Still does not mean you and I should be paying for it. And BTW, part of the
auto money was used to fund pensions.

The Government(s) should change the legislation, so to operate in Canada the
pension plan is secure. Nortel filed Chapter 11 in the USA because in the
USA pension plans are NOT protected. So the Canadian branch of a company
must be compelled to abide by Canadian laws.

I can't understand why Dalton, oh yeah an election buying of votes... Is
spending tax dollars on a bailout.

I'd argue the timing sucks big time for good old Bob. Sure, he might
get a couple hundred extra votes from Nortel pensioners but he'll lose
that many, if not more, from constituents that never worked at Nortel
and see this as another tax grab.

A wash at best. Unfortunately, fodder for Beth Graham. Fortunately
for the Liberals, they're up against Beth Graham ;-)

And the Conservative gov't auto bailout was 70 times as expensive as
the Nortel bailout, but you don't hear a peep out of conservative
voters about it. The silence is deafening.
But when the Liberals do a bailout, you squawk like crazy.

Just like the deficit: its the biggest in Canadian history but
conservatives don't seem to mind at all, because it's a Conservative
government in power. What a lame bunch of sheep.

Yep.

And GM too.

And yep, where are the controls from preventing NorTel pensions going to
the USA leaving Ontario to pick it up? Add in, why are McGuinty and the
courts taking the $3 billion in assets of NorTel and funding the pension
and severances of people first?

It is because the who system is a corrupt ruse. It is about tax
enslavement of the people for corruption at the top.

Take the GM bailout, NDP and Liberals tried to get a coupe d'etat by
bribing the Bloc when the conservatives had no plans to bailout
GM/Chrysler. In the end they all sold out Canadian taxpayers for
dysfunctional US companies.

Didn't see US balout NorTel either. But then after Dion screwed it up,
they bring in heavyweight Iggy from Harvard, a fellow of Obama's alma mater.

The whole ruse is to dump more debt on you and I to make us tax slaves.
In fact, no one alive today will see the end of the debt being saddled
on us, including our newborns.

It is also why be it this year or 15 years from now, there will be a
social riot and revolution in North America. The "Tea Party" movement
is just entertainment, when the cap blows it will be much bigger.

Does to you and me, but this is about payola and corruption. Out
politicians are active participants in this corruption. They are not
out to protect the people, not at all. Don't watch their lips, watch
the walk.

We over taxed working people need a taxpayers union that can look Ottawa
in the face and say working Canadians are walking off the job on July
1st until their total tax load from all sources are less than 33% of
gross pay. It shall include gasoline, sales taxes of all types, hidden
or not, utility taxes, property taxes etc. Let the governmetns bicker
on the differences.

Then it will change. Ottawa and the province, you are just a managed
herd member in the herd of sheep for the fleecing. Say bah bah bah or
organize.

Agreed. Because even if you don't work for government as a direct
employee, you are still an employee of the government without the
benefits. Seriously.

Most Canadians, the biggest benefactors of their working their asses off
is the government. When you add up gasoline taxes, income taxes, taxes
the employer pays that you might get a piece of, utility taxes, property
taxes, customs duties, GST, PST, and a hoard of other taxes... you work
for the government.

But at the end of the day, we are too tired and appathetic to organize a
taxpayer workers union and shut this country down until we get some real
direct real time say in how governemtn operates.

Because th Liberals, NDP and Conservates said so. And you didn't do
anthing to change it.

This is really a scam, how much money exited NorTel's Canadian plan to
go elsewhere? Then get the peopl of Ontario to subsidize it.

Dripping we corruption. McGuinty and Dalton know it, but we are just
tax sheep for them.

Didn't hear Obama's alma mater Harvard buddy Iggy say anthing either.
Your point?

The whole system, any party - even if they moved their lips, watched how
they march.

Say bah bah tax slave.

Cons were forced into it by Lib/NDP bribe of Bloc and coupe d'etat.
Could have gone something ike this:

Harper: Hello Obama!
Obama: Need you to get you sheep to help us out here.
Harper: We are not going to pay to bailout a US corporation.
Obama: You don't think I didn't send Iggy, my Harvard alma mater buddy
there for nothing, he is your replacement if you don't listen to NDP/CAW
on this. We have lined a lot of pockets to make this happen. We even
have Buzz on line via NY mafia. Have the inside on McGuinty too, nice
lap dog in debt is easy turn.
Harper: No.
Obama: We have the dirt on you, Mulroney and other conservatives. Here
is a list....
Harper: Ok, how much.
Obama: $13 billion for GM, $9B for Chrysler and forgive Chryslers
unpaid CRA bills.
Harper: Your mad.
Obama: I own you.
Harper: Ok.
Obama: BTW, I have some bank buddies that need a favor, buy up $75
billion of rotten debt funneled up into Canadian banks will ya.
Harper: You bet.

The point is that the Conservatives are, according to their own claims
and their supporters, a government of fiscal restraint and fiscal
responsibility, when they are clearly the opposite. The reality is
that Chretien and Martin were fixing Mulroney's mess and now the
Harper government comes along and have screwed it all up again by
spending money that we don't have.

Where is the outrage amongst the people who voted them into power?
They'd rather be silent than admit they made a mistake when they voted
for Harper. And so now we have the biggest deficit in history.

The Conservatives were not forced. They had the choice of facing the
people in an election instead (assuming your claims about the lib/ndp/
bloc bailout ultimatum are true).

Amazing how conservatives voters wheel out the excuse that the
government had no option. Are the Conservatives leaders or pussies?
