Hi,

With the unseasonable weather it is not at all surprising that there should be some odes still on the wing. On Wednesday October 30th on the Grand Valley Trail that runs along Big Creek at Big Creek Rd, Brant, I saw several odes. Most of them (about 30) were Autumn Meadowhawks - not at all unusual for the date. I also saw a male Shadow Darner that was searching for females. I saw two other Aeshna that did not land that I could not identify. This is about as late as I have seen this species. It seems to be perhaps the hardiest Aeshna. I was surprised to flush a Black Saddlebags. I have never seen this species this late before. I meant to go back to this area today, this time with my net, to see what I could catch but I forgot all about it. Oh well.

Bill
