Hi all,

I had the pleasure this week of spending a few days up on Ferguson Lake and Constant Creek, north of Calabogie - the abundance and diversity of odes was a delightful shock to my Southern Ontario sensibilities. I think I had at least 25 species over the two days of exploration, including Harlequin Darner, Dragonhunter, Black-shouldered Spinyleg, Lilypad Clubtail, Slaty Skimmer, Prince Basketball, and Springtime Darner.

One of the most interesting things to me was how on the first evening I was there, the lake was teeming with Orange Bluets, while on the second evening those had essentially vanished in favour of an abundance of Vesper Bluets instead. Makes me wonder what I would've seen if I'd stayed another night.

Definitely want to go back to that part of the province and explore further in future.

Happy ode-ing!

Julie
