GEP OnSSET plugin for QGIS

Hello group,

1. I am using the example files from Swatziland to generate the country file in QGIS through the plugin, and everytime I keep having the error in line 612 (see image attached). I am new in Python, do you know why I keep having this error?

2. I am trying to find the pathway for Kenya to achieve 100% electrification by 2022. I found that the GEP Explorer results provide the information needed (see the list below) that might be used as an input for the generator, is it possible? If so, is it recommended?

Hello Daniel,

For your first question

Can you clarify 1) which version of QGIS you are using? 2) which version of the plugin you are using? and 3) where you have gotten the Swaziland example files?

For your second question

You can use the GEP explorer results to run your own scenarios. I think you would perhaps have to open the result file and remove all the columns except the ones that you list first and then you can run. You can find the result files here: https://energydata.info/dataset/kenya-global-electrification-platform-gep

You will have to create an account and then you can download the files. If you chose to do it this way you will of course have no control over what GIS datasets that are being used. If you want to use your own datasets you have to run the plugins first.

Thank you for your prompt answer.

1) I am using QGIS 3.10.8.

2) The plugin located in this address https://github.com/KTH-dESA/Cluster-based_extraction_OnSSET/tree/master/Plugin. Is there a more updated version?

3) I got the layers from the training sessions, exercise 5 https://gep-education-demo.appspot.com/gep_training/unit?unit=5&lesson=23.

Hello again,

In addition, in the case of Kenya, there is no CRS that covers the whole area of the country. The only ones are the EPSG:4979, EPSG:7789, and EPSG:6934, that cover the whole world. There is no problem to use them?

Regarding Kenya, since you are close to the equator maybe it makes sense to go with World Mercator (EPSG:3395)? As the size of countries get larger few coordinate systems are going to cover the entire area of interest.

I installed the plugin and worked with the example layers. However, it didn't work with the layers from Kenya. I am using the CRS EPSG:3395 in the plugin and all the layers are using the CRS EPSG:4326 as source. This is the error message that I got, do you have an idea of the meaning?

The problems seems to be with your clusters and/or substations. Are the clusters generated with the first plugin or downloaded from somewhere?
