The 2024 FIM MotoGP World Championship is the premier class of the 76th Fdration Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Road Racing World Championship season, the highest level of competition in motorcycle road racing.

The season opener returned to its traditional home in Qatar, seeing Jorge Martn take the early championship lead with a sprint race win from pole position, before being eclipsed by defending champion Francesco Bagnaia taking the main race victory.[1] In Portugal, Martn re-took the championship lead with a sprint podium and race win.[2] Pedro Acosta became the youngest rider to achieve a podium in the MotoGP era (and third-youngest in the history of Grand Prix motorcycle racing) with a third place at 19 years 304 days.[3] The Grand Prix of the Americas saw Maverick Viales and Aprilia complete a perfect weekend, taking pole position with a new lap record, the sprint and race victories, and fastest lap.[4] With this win, Viales became the first rider in the MotoGP era (and fifth overall in Grand Prix motorcycle racing history) to secure victories with three different manufacturers (Suzuki, Yamaha, and Aprilia).[5][6]

In Spain, Jorge Martn took his second sprint victory of the season, in a race session notable for 15 separate incidents of riders crashing due to weather conditions creating unpredictable damp patches on an otherwise dry race course.[7] Francesco Bagnaia took the main race win, ahead of Marc Mrquez and Marco Bezzecchi.[8] In France, Martn achieved a perfect weekend to extend his championship lead, winning both the sprint and main races from pole position. Marquz continued his streak of second place podium finishes in both races and moved into third in the championship. Bagnaia struggled in the sprint before retiring on the third lap, but managed to take the final podium position in the main race.[9] In Barcelona, Aprilia rider Aleix Espargar announced his plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2024 season at a special Friday press conference,[10] before achieving pole position and the sprint race victory on Saturday.[11][12] Bagnaia took the main race win, with Martn and Mrquez completing the podium.[13] At Mugello, Martn started from pole, but Bagnaia took the sprint and grand prix victories (despite a three-place grid penalty) to cut the championship deficit to 18 points.[14] In Assen, Bagnaia completed a perfect weekend, taking pole position and both race wins, with Martn finishing runner-up in all sessions.[15] Martn initially dominated the weekend in Germany, getting pole position and winning the sprint before crashing from the lead on the penultimate lap of the main race, ultimately gifting the win to Bagnaia.[16] With this victory, Bagnaia re-took the championship lead for the first time since Portugal to enter the summer break with a 10 point advantage over Martn.

A new concession system for manufacturers has been introduced. It categorizes manufacturers based on their recent performance in two evaluation windows. The system covers various aspects, including test days, riders, wildcard appearances, engines, aero updates, and testing tyre allocations.[50]

During the warm up lap of the sprint or race, race direction may use the white flag signifying that bike changes are allowed due to rain. Riders may enter pit lane to change tyres or bike and subsequently start the race from pit lane without further penalty.[50]

KTM as an umbrella has been trying to find its ideal rider lineup for half a decade now. Brad Binder showed his acumen quickly, but the hunt for a true partner has been exhaustive. They might now have their man.

On paper, I think this is the strongest lineup in MotoGP for raw talent. But the bike needs to be challenging Ducati more frequently or else Fabio might become the third World Champion in the last three years to walk away from a Japanese bike.

Like Aprilia, KTM is at a bit of a crossroads here. On a good day, they can challenge Ducati. But they need to raise the floor of their team to consistently increase the pressure on them, rather than waiting for the good day to arrive once every four or five races. KTM are too big and has too much potential to be going winless on Sundays. So does Pit stick or twist?

Beneath the surface, probably the team of the year pound for pound. Pramac was the dark horse pick for a lot of pundits walking into 2023. NO ONE could have guessed just how good the VR46 Team ended up being.

Marco Bezzecchi was a revelation. The not-Marco Simoncelli regen had moments of complete dominance last season, winning three races by multiple seconds. India was a destruction of the field, on a GP22. And he dominated a miserably wet Argentina too, showing more wet weather promise. There was a reason he won the 2023 Motorsport101 Breakout Star of the Year award, the kid is superb.

Moto3 should be a bit more straightforward as 2023 was a year that cleared the decks for a lot of riders. Artigas, Sasaki, Masia, Moreira, Aji and Oncu all moved up and that kinda leaves an interesting blank slate of guys who could break out. David Alonso has to be the favourite after his stunning, four-win rookie season where he was a title threat right until the end of the year. But I also think there are a few guys who could also get in the mix if they can find some consistency.

This season could be a make-or-break year for the famous Yamaha brand with the team assembling two of the most gifted riders to supercharge their 2024 campaign: Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha newcomer Alex Rins.

The 2023 MotoGP runner-up Jorge Martin is also riding the same technical specification Ducati as Bagnaia at the satellite Pramac Racing team. Last season, the Spaniard relentlessly battled Bagnaia right through to a final race title showdown in one of the closest MotoGP rider championships ever.

If last season was any guide, then the 2024 MotoGP campaign might turn out to be one of the most competitive title fights in recent history with several highly-talented riders entering the championship mix.

Last Sunday, at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo of Cheste, near Valencia (Spain), a MotoGP season destined to remain in Ducati's history ended. In 2021, The Borgo Panigale-based manufacturer has indeed achieved the following significant results:

The fleet of safety and official cars has always consisted of the latest BMW M models, optimised for use on the racetrack. Celebrating the 20th anniversary, BMW M GmbH remains true with this philosophy and sets a real highlight with the new BMW M5 MotoGP Safety Car.

In the 2018 season, the fleet of official MotoGP vehicles includes a total of seven different BMW M high-performance cars. Alongside the new BMW M5 MotoGP Safety Car the BMW M3 Safety Car will also be in action. BMW M GmbH will provide the Safety Officer and the Race Director with a BMW M4 Coup Safety Car with water injection and a BMW M2 Safety Car. In addition, the BMW X5 M Medical Car will take to the track this season and a BMW M6 Gran Coup Safety Car also stands ready to be in action. Two BMW S 1000 RR, which BMW Motorrad provides as safety bikes, complete the 2018 safety car fleet.

The winner receives an exclusive BMW M car. The BMW M MotoGP Experience sees guests of BMW M GmbH experience an unforgettable race weekend. They are given an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes by BMW M MotoGP experts Loris Capirossi and Alex Hofmann. Furthermore, BMW M GmbH presents its latest models and products with on-site campaigns on selected Grand Prix weekends.

*The fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers the different size of the selected wheels and tires.

Interestingly, the software was developed with input from the three major manufacturers represented in MotoGP - Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati - and all three will have to agree on any changes they feel are needed to the software, but the resulting changes will be applied to all the bikes on the grid. This will be a major blow to well-funded factory teams that excel in electronics such as Factory Yamaha and Repsol Honda, but it's a change that has been a long time coming - Yamaha and Honda have had a stranglehold on MotoGP in the electronics era, and this is a sea change that will finally allow other manufacturers and smaller teams to be more competitive.

When MotoGP went to a single tire rule in 2009, Bridgestone became the supplier for every tire on the track - and it stayed that way for seven years. In 2016, the single tire rule stays in effect, but the exclusive tire supplier will now be Michelin - and already, teams are reporting drastically different behavior from the tires from the French manufacturer.

The Bridgestones were known for their massive front-end grip, allowing for extremely late and hard braking that favored the more aggressive riding style of riders like Marquez and Rossi. The new Michelins have less grip on the front end (the tires have been blamed for an inordinately high number of front-end washoutS in pre-season testing), but on the other hand, they have massive grip on the rear that allows fantastically hard drives out of corners, meaning riders will have to make huge adjustments to their riding styles to get the most out of the new tires.
