Google Search Errors

Hello Webado,
I'm back at work after a hiatus of many weeks. I'm shocked to find
that all those pages that I had validated are now showing errors. The
most glaring has to do with the Google Search box. Most of the errors
are as follows:
Error Line 689, Column 71: end tag for element "INPUT"
which is not open .

What have I done now? Or has Google changed something?

Hi,

For a non xhtml doctype, tags like <input ..> do not take a matching
closing tag like </input>, nor are they self closed by /> .

So remove all </input> tags.


You probably added thid code after validating your page previously.
But code always has to be adapted to the doctype used. Or vice versa -
anyway code syntax and doctype have to agree :)

Many thanks Webado. That worked beautifully. Thank goodness the
problem was in an SSI file so it was easy to correct across the whole
site. I forget too much when I don't work with this stuff on a
regular basis. I vaguely recall this happened once before with the /
> at the end of a line. Hope all is well at your end; we are just
beginning to enjoy the spring flowers and trees, but it is still a bit
cool.

Haha!

I still "enjoy" snowbanks that are over 6 feet tall.
Yes it's warming up, and a lot is melting, so floods are a risk.
But just suddenly about an hour ago it started snowing again with
great conviciton, and I'm at the end of my teather...
