​Only 0.35% returns picked up for scrutiny this year: CBDT chairman


New Delhi, August 9, 2018: The Income Tax Department has accepted 99.65 per cent of tax returns as it is and has picked only 0.35 per cent cases for detailed scrutiny thereby showcasing full faith in the taxpayers, chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Mr Sushil Chandra said at an ASSOCHAM event held in New Delhi today. “Tax base has widened owing to all measures taken by government for simplifying filing and processing of tax return, last year we got around 6.86 crore returns and this year I have selected only 0.35 per cent cases for scrutiny thereby meaning that 99.65 per cent [..] Read more at:

Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) arrests Mr. Neeraj Singhal in connection with investigation into the affairs of Bhushan Group of Companies


Mr. Neeraj Singhal, erstwhile Promoter and Managing Director of Bhushan Steel Limited was arrested by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO). He was produced before the court of Competent Jurisdiction today and was sent to Judicial Custody till 14thAugust, 2018.This arrest was made as part of the investigation into the affairs of Bhushan Steel Limited (“BSL”) and its several Group Companies by SFIO. The investigation was assigned by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to SFIO based on the complaints received from various sources. The Gross Advances of Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) increased from Rs.25,03,431 crore as on 31.3.2008 to Rs. 68,75,748 crore as on 31.3.2014, as per the Global Operations Data of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). ICAI Postpones First Examination of Practical Training


The Council has decided to assess students after completion of first and second year of practical training with online MCQ based tests. The students completing their 1st/ 2nd year of practical training in a particular quarter of a year would be eligible to register for the said test in the subsequent quarter. The first test for both the category of students which was scheduled to be held on August 26, 2018 has now been postponed to September 23, 2018. Cabinet approves signing of MoU between India and Canada on collaboration among Chartered Accountant Institutions
