In the line of our divine guardians, we must clearly understand that initiation (𝘥ī𝘬ṣā) is not merely a formal ceremony, but the awakening of the soul’s connection with the Supreme through the grace of Śrī Guru. Śrīla Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswāmī Mahārāj has mercifully explained that 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘪-𝘯ā𝘮-𝘥ī𝘬ṣā is the principal and essential initiation for this Age of Kali. The Holy Name is not dependent on external qualification—it descends from the transcendental plane through the Guru-paramparā, and its potency is absolute. Even without second initiation, one who has received the genuine 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘪-𝘯ā𝘮 from a bona fide Guru is not deprived of spiritual fortune. The Holy Name itself is complete, self-effulgent, and independent.

At the same time, we must not misunderstand this deep truth. The scriptures declare that the Holy Name does not wait for ritualistic formalities—but our Guruvarga has taught us the necessity of discipline and proper conduct to receive its full benefit. Śrīla A.C. Bhaktivedānta Swāmī Mahārāj Prabhupād emphasised the four regulative principles not as a limitation, but as a compassionate arrangement—just as medicine must be supported by proper diet. Without such regulation, progress becomes slow and obstructed. The conditioned soul is diseased by material habits, and therefore guidance, restraint, and 𝘴ā𝘥𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘢 are essential to make the heart a suitable place for the Name to reveal His full mercy.

Ultimately, the path is one of harmony—not rejection. The Holy Name is supreme, yet the guidance of Guru, the structure of 𝘴ā𝘥𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘢, and the culture of Vaiṣṇava life all serve to nourish our spiritual growth. Without Guru, we cannot properly understand what is favourable or unfavourable for devotion. Therefore, sincere seekers must take shelter of a genuine spiritual master, who can guide them with clarity and compassion. In this way—through 𝘯ā𝘮, through discipline, and through surrender—the practitioner can steadily advance toward the ultimate goal: pure devotion and loving service to Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa.

With due respect, your statement reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the ontological position of the Holy Name as established by śā𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢 and the realised Āchāryas in the line of Śrī Rūpa Goswāmī. The Hari-nām 𝘮𝘢𝘩ā𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢 is not one option among many—it is non-different from the Supreme Lord Himself (𝘯ā𝘮𝘢–𝘯ā𝘮𝘪 𝘢𝘣𝘩𝘦𝘥𝘢). Therefore, to say that Hari-nām is “not sufficient” directly contradicts the very foundation of Gauḍīya 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘩ā𝘯𝘵𝘢.

The scriptures speak very clearly and repeatedly on this point:

Again it is declared:

(Ś𝘳ī𝘮𝘢𝘥 𝘉𝘩ā𝘨𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘮 12.3.51)

—“Simply by chanting the Name of Kṛṣṇa, one becomes liberated and attains the supreme destination.”

And further:

𝘯ā𝘮𝘯ā𝘮 𝘢𝘬ā𝘳𝘪 𝘣𝘢𝘩𝘶𝘥𝘩ā 𝘯𝘪𝘫𝘢-𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘷𝘢-ś𝘢𝘬𝘵𝘪𝘴

𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘳ā𝘳𝘱𝘪𝘵ā 𝘯𝘪𝘺𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘢ḥ 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘢ṇ𝘦 𝘯𝘢 𝘬ā𝘭𝘢ḥ

—“O Lord, You have invested all Your divine potencies in Your Holy Names, and there are no rules regarding the time for remembering them.”

Our Guru-varga, including Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Saraswatī Ṭhākur Prabhupād, have established that the Name is 𝘴𝘷𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘮-𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘩𝘢 (self-perfect) and 𝘱ū𝘳ṇ𝘢 (complete). It does not depend on any external addition. However, they have also taught that to realise the full potency of the Name, one must chant under proper guidance, avoiding offences and following a disciplined life.

Spiritual life is not a matter of inventing new 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘴 or substituting revealed truths with personal preference. It is a matter of receiving what descends through Guru-paramparā. Therefore, I humbly but firmly submit: Hari-nām is complete, sufficient, and divinely ordained—our duty is not to replace it, but to surrender to it.
