An electrical transformer is an important device that helps to convert voltages in an electric circuit. It does this by using the principle of electromagnetic induction. Transformers come in different shapes and sizes, with each one designed for a specific purpose.
One type of transformer is called a standard transformer. This type has two coils of wire, known as the primary and secondary windings. The electricity flowing through the primary winding creates a magnetic field which induces an electric current in the secondary winding.
The amount of voltage induced in the secondary winding depends on the number of turns in the coil and the strength of the magnetic field. This is why standard transformers are often used to change voltages in an electric circuit, for example from 220 volts to 100 volts or 115 volts.
Standard transformers are also used to create electrical isolation between circuits.
