Members (and past members) of the Onigaming Yacht Club,

Speaking for the entire Executive Committee, thank you again for electing us to our positions. We're as enthusiastic as ever to help restore OYC's former shine. This message is to share a few updates.

1) Some simple stuff first. The Ex-Comm has already had one face-to-face meeting, we've another planned for next month, and we're performing all our basic duties.

2) We're in the process of updating OYC's roster and email list, with a focus on re-engaging members who've lapsed in paying dues. If you are one of those people, we'd love to have your involvement. We'll do our part to make it worth your while. If you are one of those people, be on the look for an email message from our Rear Commodore, Jim Hertel. That will follow shortly

3) We are also in the process of developing the 2026 calendar of sailing and social events. More so than ever before, OYC will endeavour to provide the kinds of experiences that you'd most enjoy. To this end, you can expect:
  • Spring Social, thoughtfully organized and held sometime in late April or early May. This social will serve several functions:
    • Celebrate the opening of the Keweenaw's sailing and boating season,
    • Introduce anyone to sailboat racing who might be interested to learn more - regardless of whether you own a sailboat, and
    • Review any changes to OYC's Racing Instructions.
  • a survey, by email, asking you about the kinds of sailing events (including non-racing events) and the kind of racing calendar that would be of most interest to you. We'll study the thoughts you share to enable us to build the best possible calendar.
That's what we have to report for now. From time to time, we'll connect with you about our other pursuits as they unfold and with updates on other club activities.

Keep dreaming of that sunny, spring day when you first float through the water!

On behalf of OYC's Ex-Comm,
John Vucetich, Commodore
