avventurieri e tagliagole, mercenari e avanzi di galera spregiudicati si
scompone. Per lasciar posto alla realtà di un corpo coeso, di uomini
che hanno rinunciato al proprio passato e alla propria identità
mettendosi al servizio della nazione. Come il brigadier-chef C., ragazzo
polacco che alla caduta del Muro è fuggito da freddo e miseria ed è
venuto ad arruolarsi, nascosto tra i respingenti dei treni merci; la
recluta cinese che si è avventurata nei ranghi senza conoscere una
parola di francese; o L., camerata svedese che invece ci è rientrato
dopo aver appreso di un suo compagno ucciso e diversi altri feriti sotto
il fuoco di un cecchino a Sarajevo, durante la guerra in ex Iugoslavia.
