Files locked preventing Cloud Drive sync

I use a Synology NAS at my office, but I also work from home frequently. To keep my files on the NAS synced up, I use the Synology Drive Client, which works beautifully, and keeps my files synced up (2-way).  It works much like a OneDrive or Google Drive client does.

The problem is OneCommander sometimes locks files, after they're closed and prevents syncing, The client will not sync files that are "open".  However, these files are not open, they're just loced by OneCommander.

Many times I don't realize this has happened and then I get to my office only to discover that my most recent updates from home aren't there.

Fortunately, I can remote into my home PC and close OneCommander, and then it syncs perfectly every time.

Why does it do this? Is there a setting to prevent file locking after closing?

Also, related, sometimes I may save a file that is queued to be synced and then attempt to rename it.  OneCommander will completely freeze up and I have to terminate it...because it the sync client was syncing the file and attempting to rename it freaked it out and it dies.

I have synology NAS but I have not used sync in about 8 years so I will have to install that again to test. Any specific file type with that issue? OC shouldn't lock anything but if you have a buggy preview or thumbnail handler, some of those don't release handle on files after OC requests thumb/preview through them. That also seems the reason because of the second part you mentined OC freezing when renaming the files.

Thanks for the response. Synology's sync client is really good and does a fantastic job.  I never have to worry about having the most current version of any files on either side.  OC is definitely locking the files, because I can open Windows Explorer, and use File Locksmith (a component of PowerToys) and it shows that OC is th∈ culprit. Not sure about the Thumbnail handler.  I'm using a native thumbnail handler from OC...nothing third-party.  How do I check or changfe this?

OC doesn't have thumbnail handlers but instead requests thumbnail from Windows, and Windows finds a thumbnail handlers, starts it and returns a thumbnail. Those handlers are loaded into the host process so it would say that OC has the lock. Which file types?

Seems to be mostly PDFs best I can tell.

Which version of OC are you running? You can see in About dialog. Until 3.104 there was an issue with a pdf preview so update to the latest

Hi,
I can just add that I have been using Synology Drive Client (currently 4.0.1) on Windows 11 for synchronisation to a Synology NAS and I haven't noticed any problems with locked files. My OC is verision 3.108.  (For PDF files I don't use Adobe; I use "PDF Studio Pro" by Qoppa)

I have version  3.108.  In case it makes any differnce, I use FoxIt as my default PDF handler.

I installed Foxit pdf and tried with both, "Foxit PDF" and "PDF Studio Pro" by Qoppa.

With both programs in turn, I opened a pdf file, edited it and saved changes keeping the file open. In all cases Synology Drive client uploaded the updated file successfully even though it was still open in the pdf editor.  (The updates were checked on another device synced to the same files)

So I couldn't find anyway to create a lock and make the Synology sync fail.

Please share if you have any specific steps to reproduce this, note if you are clicking file to preview, did you open it from OC, is the thumbs view selected and locked file displayed, but please ensure first that this is checked (if not, check, Ctrl+close OC to fully close and reopen)

Thanks for trying.  I recall that most of the time when this has happened, I was attempting to rename a file.  When trying to save the new name, OC would lock up.  Granted, this doesn't happen EVERY TIME.  I have not found the consistency.

Thanks. I have checked this option to see if it makes a difference.
