I just downloaded and extracted the latest BETA version above.  FLAC playback continues to work.  However, I am seeing an issue with some embedded album art not showing when playback executes.  I am not sure what is triggering this issue.

For this one artists, some album art sized 3000X3000 pixels does not show.  It does show in the primary file list though:

Instead of the embedded album art, it is showing the VLC media player association icon.
When I actually play this selected file, this shows:

OC_album_art2.png

This does not always happen.  Here is an example of the same 3675X3675 sized embedded album art displaying as expected:

During playback the album art above vanishes though similar to the screenshot two above.

I sent a DM and shared the files on Google Drive.  Anyone with the link has access to the two examples.  This is temporary, and I will remove this files when investigation is completed.

Thanks for sending the files. I checked and the system thumbnail provider can't get thumbnail on the second one, and I see explorer can't get a thumbnail either.
There are many ways these can differ:
  • FLAC METADATA_BLOCK_PICTURE versus older/nonstandard artwork storage.
  • JPEG vs PNG embedded artwork.
  • Multiple embedded pictures.
  • Picture type differences, such as Front Cover vs another picture type.
  • Odd/missing MIME type or dimensions inside the FLAC picture metadata.
  • Very large cover art.
  • Malformed-but-tolerated FLAC metadata.
  • Files produced by different tagging applications.
The result that I get from system's thumbnail provider for that one is "Error 16386, E_NOTIMPL: Not implemented"
Maybe I will look for custom parsers in the future that wouldn't rely on what Windows comes with, but honestly it is not a high priority at this time

Interesting.  The embedded album art is all 100% JPG files.  This appears to be a limitation of the Windows API that you depend on.
Note that VLC player successfully shows all JPG album art during playback.  You were previously using VLC lib.  If it has API calls specific to album art, making use of this library as opposed to the WIndows API may be a solution.  I do not know if album art API calls do exist; however, VLC handles this perfectly.

Here is VLC successfully displaying embedded album art from the same album:

On first run VLC asked you this and you didn't uncheck first option:
"Enables online lookups: VLC connects to online databases to automatically download album art, track names, and artist info."
OC doesn't have that feature

Here is my relevant option.  My mouse cursor is right over it.  Notice that network access is disabled, and embedded album art displays with no issues:
