Hello Milos,

I'm an IT administrator who has been using Total Commander on Windows and Midnight Commander on Linux for many years. Both tools rely heavily on function key shortcuts (F1–F12), which makes switching between systems seamless and efficient.

One Commander looks fantastic and offers great functionality. I believe it would be extremely helpful for many sysadmins and power users if One Commander included an optional “Total Commander Keybindings Mode.”

This mode could map classic shortcuts like:

  • F5 – Copy
  • F6 – Move
  • F7 – Create folder
  • F8 – Delete
  • F3/F4 – View/Edit
  • Shift+F10 – Context menu
...and so on, matching the full set of TC/MC function keys.

Such a feature would make One Commander even more attractive to technical users who work across platforms and prefer keyboard-driven workflows.

Is this something you would consider adding in future versions?

Best regards,
Jacek Zapolski

Hi Jacek,

In Settings>Advanced there is a shortcut editor button on top, that you can use to customize those shortcuts. I've never used TC so I wouldn't know what to change and if it would work in a similar way. If you make one, please share the shortcuts.json file from Settings>SettingsLocation folder

Is there a possibility to set TAB as a shortcut for "FocusOtherBrowser". This combination is much more convenient.
Also, "OpenParentDir" shortcut is set to Backspace (which it what i would like to), but also Left key does the same, which I would like to disable.
Basically, if possible, at least in V4 would be good to have a full set of keys available to be used for the shortcuts + no default "un overridable" shortcuts.

Thank you!

Tab has specific functionality in Windows and can't be a shortcut

Sorry, but how does it work for File Pilot then? It's also a GUI-based file manager and TAB navigates just between the two panels.
I am many years away now from GUI development but back then it was possible with WinForms at least...

Tab in Windows moves keyboard focus between focusable elements. OC's sidebar has also focusable elements, drives, favorites, and history. If those werent focusable, then there would be no way to get to sidebar with keyboard. Navigation panels also need to be accessed by keyboard, so they are also tabbable. That's default functionality in Windows and all programs should respect that.

Those other elements you mentioned could be focused with yet another shortcuts. As an option, someone can either setup default (as you described) TAB behavior or have it as one of the shortcuts. Accessing the list of drives is an often used operation. I would rather have a shortcut defined to access drives than TAB multiple times to focus the needed element.
