Restrict windows from closing when adjusting

Is there a way to restrict windows from closing when adjusting the width of one window? I use hi-res vertical monitors and when expanding a window manually to read file names, if I go too far the other window snaps shut. Then, when I find what I need I have to click to reopen the window. What would be great is a way to turn off this responsive feature (e.g., a 'don't snap close' multiple windows toggle, or a width setting where we could set the second windows responsive width?)

If this realates to Windows' own window management, then unfortunately that is out of my control. Windows itself is controlling window snapping, maximizing on edges and similar
