Hi!

I have a mobile phone connected via wireless and OC see's it fine. But when I connect another phone via cable it does not display in OC. The second phone does display in File Explorer and Multi Commander. It's my understanding that OC does not support MTP  (Media Transfer Protocol).

Is that true and if so, is there a workaround or can OC v4 support it? I'm currently using  the latest version 3.108.0.0.

Thank you for a great product!

Regards,
Jane

Sorry I read this message late and missed that you already have the wireless access setup. I don't trust the MTP protocol (shared my experience in above message) as it can cause data loss. I've seen many apps being available, like localsend, blip, kdeconnect and similar, that are supposed to help move files between phone and computer, but I personally never used any as I never had a need, so I can't recommend any particular app.

I just noticed that OneCommander cannot access MTP devices.  There may be work-around for this.  For example, there is the Open Source https://github.com/GustavLindberg99/AndroidDrive on GitHub or  MTPdrive at https://www.mtpdrive.com/.  The latter is not free.  You would be able to mount the MTP device as a drive letter.  It should be visible then, but you will want to try it out and confirm this is the case.

Thanks for sharing. I'd trust the first project more than the second. The first one uses ADB while the second is still the MTP, that not even Microsoft was able to implement properly. But if it exposes a drive letter then OC would be able to use it. Note that MTP doesn't support doing more than one thing at the same time, so program may freeze if you tried to browse folders on your device while you are copying from the same device

Hi!

After doing more research, it appears that MTP over USB cable is the most reliable connection between a mobile device and a Windows 11 PC.

I know my initial post was about a wireless connection.

I have not had issues with MTP over USB, but I will admit that I do not use it often.  It is not the fastest and does not have built-in support within Windows (such as the ability to map a drive letter to the device).

The two utilities I shared do allow you to map a drive letter.  However, the open source GitHub option is more complex to setup.  It required pre-installation of a third-party utility.  The second commercial option is much simpler to setup up, but it costs $50 for a license.  That is quite expensive.
