How can I create quick launch buttons for exe applications?

Sidebar cannot host files, so that wouldn't work. There are plans to put filetype sensitive shortcut buttons for opening file with a certain program but not just for launching programs. I believe that is what the taskbar should be used for, or to make a separate program launcher in the future, but not to integrate it into the files manager itself.
