Getting started with realtime GTFS API

Hello OneBusAway Users/Developers,

I am trying to make a front end that looks much like what I have attached as an example. It would consist of 

1) Origin

2) Routes that passthrough nearby the Origin (labels depending on whether its color/destination/name for a given transit agency) 

3) Estimated Time of Arrival (in minutes preferrably)

I am curious to know how those of you more experienced with OneBusAway would tackle this, or whether OneBusAway is even necessary?

The main thing I am encountering in my research is how difficult it is to go to one centralized repository/registry for all the real-time data I need for the broadest coverage among the United States.

Will it be as simple as making some request calls for the data, or do I need to set up a server (as I've read on the github, not sure if it pertains in this use case)?
