Hi. I’m getting no data when asking for schedule-for-route for the Washington State Ferries route 37, "Bainbridge Island - Seattle” 95_37. The JSON object returns text “ServiceDateOutOfRange”. Any idea what this means?

Is this the right place to report such things?

Thanks, and happy new year!
Drew

This email list is more for the open source project itself and not the Seattle hosted version. With that said if you post the API call I can probably comment on the validity of the call.

Sorry about that! Anyway thanks for your reply. I just tried it again and it worked. The API call I used was with the schedule-for-route method, routeId 95_37. Maybe it was something I did, will investigate further.

Thanks again,
Drew

Sorry, I just told you it worked but I had typed in the wrong routeId. This is what I tried and it came back with “ServiceDateOutOfRange” in the “text” property.

api.pugetsound.onebusaway.org/api/where/schedule-for-route/95_37.json?key=

In fact it looks like for agency 95, “Washington Stare Ferries”, most of the routes return that value except for the ones around the San Juan Islands. Maybe that means it’s the server that either hasn’t populated the data or there’s a bug somewhere.

I think it’s the other way around. There is no service today on most routes (at least in the loaded GTFS) so the server has nothing to say. The UI has a pretty good calendar that helps with this.

It looks like the weekly GTFS expired digging deeper. That’s a short period of relevance for the server to maintain.

Ah, since this is a special time of year, and there is no service, then it doesn’t even have the scheduled routes to publish. Is that it?

Thanks again,
 Drew

It could be. But more likely the GTFS wasn’t published far enough in advance to be loaded in time for the holidays.

The GTFS loading isn’t automated for validation reasons.

Ferries are running today (there would be a lot of unhappy people if they weren't).  See https://wsdot.com/ferries/vesselwatch/default.aspx

So as Sheldon says, probably the GTFS wasn't published far enough in advance to be loaded.  The winter sailing schedule began Dec 29.
  cheers,
  Alan
