Hi everyone,

It was fantastic to see so many people at the November meetup last Thursday! And now to announce the theme for December..

     THE END

You can interpret this any way you like. You could make a game set after the end of the world, or a game about exploring the memories of a dying man, or a game that happens during the end credits for another game! And as always the theme is completely optional, so feel free to make any game you like!

This month you may want to combo up and come to a brilliant game jam happening on Saturday Dec 7th:

Thanks,
Colm

I'm continuing on with the game I was working on last month, slowly but surely. My tower defense / TCG thing. It's not doing much except loading in the Tiled map and rendering it, but here's a link to it anyway. Haxeflixel is a lovely platform, it really doesn't take much to get stuff done.

As well as GameCraft this saturday, there's a Ludum Dare online game jam happening the weekend of Dec 13th-16th. So you can take part whereever you are!

And now for a little pimping. I've listed Guild of Dungeoneering on IndieDB and am hoping to get it nominated for their top 100 indie games of 2013 competition, particularly in the 'best unreleased' category. If you would kindly throw me a vote I would greatly appreciate it. You can do so here just above the 'latest screens' section:

We're planning on having our December meetup after the christmas break on Monday Jan 6th so we'll all have an extra week of polish this month!

Don't forget this weekend is Ludum Dare, an online game jam:

Finally Kev has published his game 'Gooboids' on iOS and Android, so download away:

Congratulations Kev!

Since GameCraft was a bit of a bust for me this month, I decided to have a go at Ludum Dare for the first time so I thought I might combine the two themes. So for 'You only get one' and 'The End' I thought of making a game based on Carl Sagan's quote from The Pale Blue Dot, from Cosmos, about how Earth is "...the only home we've ever known". In the game you'd have to protect the earth (or out ability to inhabit it), from killer asteroids and comets as well as from humanity itself; global warming, nuclear war, etc.

There'd be a number of AI countries who are all looking to provide for themselves in terms of water, food and  power (and oil). Your role is to prevent them going overboard and doing harm... with your space based laser!
Do you prevent them from building more fossil fuel plants?
Do you shut down their nuclear programs? Are they going to use it for cleaner power or for weapons?
Do you destroy their rockets? Are they going to launch warheads or satellites to help search for killer asteroids?

All vastly overambitious, especially as I was also using it to learn Unity. So I didn't get too much done; definitely no 'game'. But I do have a rocket that builds itself and launches, so there's that.

My first attempt at any kind of graphical interactive anything - more of a "get used to Unity/gamey dev terminology" exercise than anything else. At least I have *something* on paper so I can proceed with the theme for January!
