Congrats to everyone involved in April's 1GAM. But the month is drawing to a close, and it's time to move on. May's 100% optional theme is:

        Industrial

There was some feedback that last month's theme implied a particular gameplay mechanic, so this month here's a theme that is pure feel

and context. It could mean literal industrial processes - pipelines, cogs and gears, assembly lines. Captains of industry, organising factories,

backroom dealing, creating jobs, tax dodging. Things with a grimey industrial feel. Chrome finished dystopias. Or more than

likely, none of the above :) Some inspirational links!

And again, the theme is completely optional. If you want to do something else, I can't wait to see it :) So lets use this thread for progress pics

and updates like we did last month. That worked out pretty well. The Show and Tell thread didn't work very well, so we'll just pull the last links

people post out of this thread next month.

So... does anyone want art done for their game this month? I'm only experienced as a programmer, but I'm trying to practice art, in particular game related art, and would love to get experience by helping out where I can here.

I don't have any portfolio, due to just beginning all this, but here's a sepia toned monochrome self-shot of me wearing a scarf full of pencils - I'm pretty sure this is what artists look like, like all the time.

But I'm very much just beginning, and will only be able to work very slowly. So for now, I may limit it to doing a splash screen, background, some tiles, that kind of thing. Anyone on the list feel free to drop me an email if you're interested! Hopefully over the coming months I'll be able to produce more, of higher quality, per month.

Just wanted to post my idea for May's 1GAM to help ensure I actually finish it before the next meetup (shame mechanics really work!)

I've decided to make a physical card game after seeing how fun John Kelly's one was last month. I've always wanted to make a game that used drafting as a mechanic since it is fun, intuitive and yet automatically deep strategically and tactically. More info on the concept here if you aren't familiar: http://makeagameofthat.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/mechanics-drafting/

Since I was theme-less I decided to go with May's official theme and have decided to make my game about the Industrial Revolution. You are an industrialist trying to build up your trade empire. You draft cards that are either basic resources such as cotton or iron ore, or industrial improvements such as blast furnaces, threshing machines, steam powered railways and so on. The more advanced cards will have certain requirements of the basic resources before you can play them, thus leading to specialisation (unless people are blocking you with the drafting side of the game!).

If you have ever played the excellent game '7 Wonders' - that is definitely an inspiration for what I'm thinking with this game. (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/68448/7-wonders)

Looking forward to sharing some work-in-progress cards as I get stuck into the first prototype!

I'm at Dublin Gamecraft at the moment! I won't have time to do the 1GAM this month, so my entry for this is going to be my DGC game. The theme is "Non-violent exploration". I'm also going to be making a card game. It's going to be the player against the deck, and the current title is Escape from Plaguitis. I'll post the full idea once I get them more fleshed out.

I also didn't have time this month, so here's my game from GameCraft, Spectrum http://oscan.net/index.php?cmd=blog&pid=33&linkId=15

I also made a game at gamecraft, and it is attached. Completely different to my original idea but was a fun event and an interesting experience for my first go at game making.

I've built my paper prototype and playtested it for the first time - I think there could be a fun game here with some slight tweaking!

I've also done up some actual card designs in photoshop to print once I've finalised all the mechanics..

Since I was on a roll in photoshop I've made the two other types of card:

Finally got around to taking a picture of my game DGC. Escape from Plaguitis. You are in a medical research lab when a deadly strain of plaguitis is breaks out. You must try to escape the building, conserving your time and energy and trying your best to avoid too much exposure to the virus. I realise now that I may have missed the non-violent part of the DGC theme :D but lets pretend it's a reflection on the industrialised pharmaceutical industry and that it was always meant to be a 1GAM game >_>

48 hand drawn cards. 8 virus cards. 8 energy cards. 8 time cards. 8 energy gamble cards. 8 time gamble cards. and 8 unique situation cards.

I plan on digitizing it at some point, but before then I look forward to showing it off on Tuesday :)

Hi All.

I've finally got a playable build of my game. I've built executables for Mac and windows, and also attached the .love file. I'm on Mac, so I haven't tested the exe, but hopefully it works. There is a welcome screen in the game that hopefully covers everything (please excuse the poor writing, it was thrown together in a rush, as I didn't have enough time to finish the game properly).

Enjoy!
